I bought my first EBMM bass about a month ago and am looking to get a second one. I was curious as to how others had decided on what to get as a second bass. I've only been playing for a month, but I know I really want to get another MM.

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey Melissa, Welcome to the Forum! You'll get a ton of suggestions here. I know whenever I'm looking for a new bass (which is more often than not) I try to get something different than what I already have. Luckily for you, you chose EBMM so you have a ton of options to work with. Maybe a different bass model? Different pickup configuration? Play whats out there and see what works for you.

If it were me, the second bass would be a fretless, because it doesn't duplicate what you've got.

Fretless or fretted, though, I'd go for a different pickup combination. No point in buying another example of what you've already got, unless you really dig having a different color to play with once in a while.

What kind of bass do you have now?

If you're looking for more tonal options, or a different feel, these might be reasons to try another MusicMan model.

If you love the model you have, maybe you would order another one in a different color, or with different options (fretless, piezo, different fingerboard wood).

Or, if you order TODAY, you could get a Dargie Delight, which is a limited edition model in Martini Olive Green with Martini glass fretboard inlays. But the window for ordering one ends today.

In my book "one" Stingray can do it all......why have 2 or 3 or 10 basses?

Hi Steve. I've got a SR4 with a maple fingerboard.

Right now I'm kind of limited as to what I can physically try out. The only MMs I've had access to are a Sterling that looked like someone had beaten the snot out of it and the Stingray floor model that I bought. I really smitten with my Stingray and have been trying to narrow down what I might want to get next since I've been given the opportunity to (at least for the time being until my husband tries to reconsider). Definately looking at rosewood fingerboard this time though.

In my book "one" Stingray can do it all......why have 2 or 3 or 10 basses?

Mainly to replace the Ibanez I originally got in May. ;) It's okay, but I really don't like playing it anymore.

The Stingray is a very good start. Sterlings are quite popular amongst our female population here, although some are known to be certified Bongoloids (as am I).

This was a current photo as of January of this year but has changed somewhat since then. My advice is obviously going to be "Why not a Bongo?"

Or maybe "Why not a few Bongos?"

I cannot, in good conscience, recommend anything other than a Bongo HH 4-string.

Mine saved my bacon this weekend. Again. Played an opening for Paul Simon and Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians at the Fair Park Music Hall in Dallas; and my Wal was causing some horrible distortion somewhere in the signal chain. I grabbed the Bongo and all was right with the world. That's what I get for not grabbing the Bongo first. What a bass.
