I recently became the owner of a Silhouette Special.
It's a great guitar and I would like to change the frets on my particular instrument. I'm not used to such low frets, and they are also sculpted, which makes them even lower).
I couldn't find any information about the specific factory sizes of the installed frets.
Maybe someone here has experience with replacing them.
I would like to put at least the ones that were there originally, or higher.
How much higher can be put is also a question, because I would like to keep the factory upper nut.
Friends, share your experience in this matter. Who put what and what were your feelings?

My own measurement of my 2005 Silhouette Special: 0.096" high, 0.050" wide (2.44 mm high, 1.27 mm high)
Thank you! It seems like the closest ones are something like Jescar 51100 - .100″ X .051 (2.54 X 1.30 mm)

I killed my standard nickel frets on my previous guitar in about 1.5 years.
So I was thinking about steel ones.. But I'm not sure how much they will affect the sound. But it would be a rational decision for me.
Maybe someone could share their experience with such a replacement?

If you're going to refret, you might as well use SS. No real impact sonically (at least I can't hear it, and I've had all of mine re-fretted with SS) and they feel smoother.

My advice is to find a good shop/luthier to do the work, then discuss the fret size with them.

Thanks, beej! That's what I wanted to hear)
