Other than the body shape, if both were SSS Trems, why buy one over the other?
I'm in need of a guitar with 3 single coils, and since I'm already at 2 EBMMs this year, why not a 3rd?

Having played both the configurations that you're talking about at the Open House..

I'd say the main difference is the neck. The AL is thicker and rounder like an Axis neck, while the Sil Special is a little flatter/thinner.

Both sounded friggin' sweet.

You can get a rosewood fretboard on the Sil Spec, Al's only come in maple.

When I had the BA Silo with the 3 SC's, I called it my strat killer. I've heard Jon describe the Al as something the Strat's wish they could be.

Anyone else have any insight to pass along????

AL come with Duncan pickups including a base plated "tele" pickup in the bridge position or you can get it with MM90's for a little more bite in each position.

I believe the Sil Specs are custom wound Dimarzios.

I can't say what they sound like A/B as I've never tried - But I can tell you I really like the 90's.

Just have to pipe in here and say the sil spec has a neck that, in my opinion, was shaped by the hands of the gods. It is perfection.

did anyone mention that the bodywoods are different as well, isnt one alder and the other ash?
