Silo Special's pickup switch question! Ernie Ball crew maybe?

Hi guys,

I would like to know why there are differences between Silo Spec in SSS and HSS config in terms of wiring 5-way switch. Of course I know beacuse of the three single coils there was no possibilty to split them like a humbucker but on the SSS you can choose to have only middle single coil selected while on the HSS you can only have it with the neck pickup. Instead of only middle pickup you have a neck pickup + one of the humbucker coils. Did BP and the gang wanted to make it sound more unique from each other and they decided to wire the switch a little bit different. Or maybe this new position in HSS just sounded interesting enough to "sacrifice" that "only middle single coil position"?

bump... I guess nobody knows that. So maybe I ask like this. Does the neck pup + one coil from the humbucker position in the Silo Special (HSS) sound good?

I think it sounds great! a bit brighter and more edge than a middle pup would be my rough description of the sound.Someone told me that it's a bit of a tele sound but never owning a tele I can't say myself.Very usefull for clean stuff.

I never used the middle by itself, never even gave it a try on my Sils. When I just recently found out about the neck/single-bridge combo in the 3rd position, I started trying it out a little here and there. It’s pretty dang useable, though not my favorite position, and yes, it does give a bit of that well defined and crisp tele vibe. A whole lot nicer sounding than the middle by itself, to my ears.
