Sold my St%r&#, replacement?

Yup. Sold one of my two Strats. It was a good guitar, but as I'm getting more used to my Axis SS the Strat felt kind of “bulky”. So now I've started saving for a replacement. Hmm....a Silo Special or AL? Something with a single coil in the neck position. What do you think?

Maybe some of you Silo owners out there can describe the pickups for me? How are they compared to a regular Strat p.u.? My other Strat have Kinnman Blues – a bit hotter – suits my playing style.

I personally like the Silo. It's got a great sound.
But if you already have an Axis, then the neck of the Al is more similar!

I'm with Foggy on this one. If you like the Axis neck, then you should check out the AL. The SS's neck is a bit different from the Axis. I have both and like both necks, but that's me. I find the SS's single cools to be sweet. But that's my take.

Normally they do, however since I'm in so goodd with EBMM these days, they mocked up a protoype for me for Namm 2006.





























Nah just pulling you leg, I modded my Sub, threw in a Silo pickguard complete wih Bill LAwrence pups...

Here's my thought on what I may end up doing when I save up the money. Buy a Silo Special with 3 singles, remove the original pickups, and replace them with a Red Lace sensor in the bridge, and Gold Lace sensors for the middle and neck. I would replace the stock pots with a TBX tone knob, and add the Mid-boost circuit from the Clapton Blackie. Basically, it's all the Blackie electronics package with the addition of a Red Lace sensor instead of a Gold Lace for the bridge for a hotter, more Humbucker sound.

I love the AL, but I find the Sil more comfy, so it'd be my pic for a strat replacement (it replaced my strat, actually). The stock pickups are great, but I just swapped them with dimarzio virtual vintages....looking for that extra 5%, y'know...

I love ALL the EB necks, so that wasn't an issue for me. I can't really recommend the AL over the Sil based on neck shape. Heck, I had two EVH's that had less similarity between the necks than my current EVH and Sil do....

I have 2 axis's and a silo special H/S/S and i prefer the body of the silo over the axis and I have to say I like both necks, but the silo is my main guitar right now, at least til that 20th comes out, the silo is a great guitar and the bucker in the bridge gives me heavy tones and the single in the neck gives me stratty tones so I have all bases covered -

Yeah. I was thinking the same thing: maybe a H/S/S would be the right combination, and the AL do only come as S/S/S. But you can get it with MM90's. Hmmm..... And now i've started drooling over the 20 Anniv. Silo.

Spent all night yesterday playing and tweaking my AL SSS. That, my friends, is a St@@t killer! I've had a few Sil Specs - and loved them - but I eventually replaced them with a Luke. To me the AL is the closest to that vintage st@@ vibe. It's also pretty close to the Axis neck, so easy to go between.

Better yet ... just buy one of everything
