very nice job Peter :) I like you overdriven sound much better than the previous ones (beginning riff) and that flamenco-ish part with piezo is really nice :)

in other words - great stuff

I LOVE IT!!! *thumbs up*

That's a JP with piezo? Is that piezo on the recording? What other equipment did you use?

Really nice stuff there! :)

Nice singing, too! :D

the jp on the recordings is just directly recorded through my boss me-30

the overdriven riff at the start is a mic'ed cab

the piezo is from the jp yes

i used my maton steel string acoustic for the chord parts

the drums are me hitting the maton and making cymbal noises with my mouth and also a beer bottle with some lids in it :)

thanks everyone for listening

which levels are you reffering to colin?

i think that the drums are maybe a bit too loud in the second section

From memory (I don't have it opened right now) the 4min - 6min section. If you have a look in a program such as Adobe Audition 2.0 you can see it. The actual wave is flat (hence the red light on your meters). With digital you don't need to record/mix as loud as we had to with analogue (no tape hiss). I really liked the guitar line that mimics the vocal melody. Also another little trick is to split the song into two songs, the second half has some good ideas. PM me if you want to talk further about recording.

so i have recorded too loudly when the drums come in?

my set up is pretty shabby
everything i record is from the boss me-30 into my computer

when singing or mic'ing something (guitar, guitar drums) i use a phantom power condensor mic which i run through the pedal to put eqs and reverbs and other things on it
and i record with audacity

and i always end up having to do about 4 mix downs and joining them together
my computer just cant handle playing 100+ tracks at once

i know i need some new gear
but in 3 weeks i am starting a audio engineering and sound production course in sydney so thats going to be sweet

the guitar line the follows the vocal melody
are you talking about the one at the end with lots of whammy use?

Yeah that's the melody I was talking about, what course are you doing? I can recommend this http://www.proaudiotraining.com.au/ they're in Sydney. Be careful once that recording bug bites, it can be very expensive :) .

Just be glad that the digital/computer thing is here to stay for awhile. I know a guy that went from tape to ADAT to HD. Very expensive indeed. Remember all the Beatles used was two 4 tracks for Sargent Pepper.

Wow. I just checked out the song, and have to say that everything about is really good. I'm wowed by how intricate it is without being abrasive at all. Thumbs up. The drums are good volume. Everything is really great.

Just to clarify, I wasn't talking about drum volume. With the popularity of home recording setups these days, the tendency to try and get our home recordings to sound as loud as professionally mastered Cd's can be quite a trap.

Oh, okay!

That makes sense. I know that I've heard a lot of home recordings that either come out far too quiet, or ridiculously loud. I'm pickin' up what you're puttin' down.

thanks for listening jimmy

the drum tracks are lots of fun to do
i hang my microphone off the roof (the clip is broken and i dont have a stand anyway)
and i have my acoustic guitar on my lap with a sock dampening the strings
and the microphone just above the sound hole

and i hit it in certain places and it creates a really nice drum sound
some parts i use a thumb pick to hit it with to get a bit more snare like 'crack'
and the cymbals are me just making cymbal noises
and the shaker sound is a beer bottle half full with lids

:)
