As many of you may or may not know, my day job for the past 11 or so years is in retail pharmacy. I’m “that guy” standing behind the counter counting out your 30 Lipitor or 6 Viagra, and I enjoy every minute of it. Five years ago, my father Ed and I took over the family music store with the idea of bringing new life to the business. Ed’s uncle Bruno started the business in 1953, and it has always been an important part of the town. Since we took over the store on August 1st, 2002, and opened it with part-time hours, I’ve been juggling my personal hours around trying to make things work between both jobs.

The past few months in particular have been more than just a bit trying for me, and I feel that I have been unable to give the music store and my customers the high level of attention that they deserve. From a business perspective that is unacceptable. Music has been an important part of my life and my family from the day I was born, to the day I first banged on the keys of Dad’s piano, to the day I first picked up the violin, cello, and most recently, the guitar. Going to family parties and weddings and having the first generation DuBaldo Brother’s Band performing the music, to being able to join them as 3rd generation and play songs at my grandparents 55th and 60th wedding anniversaries is a priceless feeling. Music is a passion of mine, and it is not going away any time soon.

As of 5:30PM last night, I gave notice that I am leaving the pharmacy at the end of December. I will be running DuBaldo Music Center full-time, while Nick runs our Beller’s Music store.

2008 will be a special year for us – it will be our 55th anniversary, and I have high hopes for the business. I also have some very special events in the works, and I can’t wait to hang with some of you guys again!

Thanks to those of you who have encouraged me, and big thanks to the EB crew who have been great to us from Day One. Special thanks to Sterling for your conversation out in Dallas last year when you spoke about statistics. When you spoke about the success rate for businesses dropping almost exponentially from generation to generation, it touched home with me -- Here’s to ignoring that statistic and proving it can be done, and done well.

See you guys/gals at NAMM…

PS
AJ, get ready to sharpen your pencil, 2008 is gonna be a great year…

statistics have no meaning when you hold the power to determine your own fate.

Way to go - congrats!

Sometimes the toughest part is simply making the decision - now you can focus on what's important to you. :)

Pete, that's awesome! I'll have to find a hook-up on that HCSH that Kevin and Aziah are on now that you'll be full time. (I wonder if the HCSH will help with the fake muscles? Might have to talk with Barry on that one...)
