....my JP6 is being born. Man, I can't wait for that moment when I get the call from my local music store to tell me that my Guitar has arrived. I said before that I had been having dreams about it, still am. Chessy, huh? I placed my order on June 5, so it could be within these next two weeks, could be a month... the suspense is killer.

I have been considering replacing those DiMarzio pups with something else, though. I'm thinking about hooking up with Jaggman up north and have some specially designed pups put in, not sure though. I can't really tell how it's going to react (The DiMarzio setup) with my amp until I try it so I'll just have to wait.
 
I'll never forget the day I went to pick up my Petrucci at Guitar Center. I brought my son with me who was 5 at the time. Just as the sales dude comes up with the box, my son tells me he has to go to the bathroom. So, I take him in and he insists I don't have to stand in the stall with him while he takes a leak. Somehow, he manages to piss on his own pants while he's standing!!!!

I frantically try to clean him up and stuff half a roll of toilet paper down his underwear to try and make him feel dry. We walk out into the show room and I'm pulling the case from the box all the while my son is squirming around because he's uncomfortable and getting cold from his wet pants.

I had to put the guitar away and further delay my joy so I could drive him home and put him in the shower. I laugh whenever I think of that.

Cud, that is an awesome story! I took my 9 year old to see U2 and about 40 minutes into their set he goes "can we leave now???" You just gotta laugh...

Aw, Dave! I think that woiuld make me laugh, too, if it were my son. That's so sad, but it's funny at the same time.

I hope you were able to enjoy your new fiddle, eventually.

Check out Lindy Fralin pickups. He actually designed pickups for a run of PRS guitars back in the early 90s.

I remember taking my son to a punk concert, and the mixture of pride and fear at seeing him in his first mosh pit....And thinking how I would beat someone down if they hurt him :cool:

Congrats Alan - but I'd suggest giving the stock pickups a good solid trial run before planning to swap them. I'm not a big pup swap kind of guy, but these pickups just sound more 'alive' then the pickups in my other guitars. I love 'em....

I swapped pups on two of my JPs...just looking for a lil' difference in tone since my main standard tuned one (desert gold) sounded great, but the others didn't match it entirely...now i've got some cool sounds going around...I'd recommend keeping the stocks till you play them, they amp friendly in that they'll allow you to shape your tone at the amp level.

Cheezy? You have no idea...

For me, getting a new guitar is almost a religious experience. I've almost come to believe that waiting is ALMOST the best part. (I'm currently waiting for my Desert Gold JP6 to come in sometime in September)

I've bought quite a few new guitars over the past few years, and have a certain ritual I do once the guitar finally makes it to my dealer:
1) I tell my dealer to make sure NO ONE OPENS THE BOX! I want mine to be the first set of non-factory hands to touch the guitar! The unclean shall not touch thine axe!
2) I'll go pick it up from the dealer, but I refuse to open it in the store. (This really irks them, since I'm one of very few people that special orders high-end guitars from them, and it's the only chance they usually get to see them.)
3) When I get home, the phone gets taken off the hook, and I'll pop in my favorite CD at the time (to get the mood just right)
4) I'll (ever-so-gingerly) begin to open the box, making sure to keep it as intact as possible.
5) Once the case has been successfully removed from it's 'birth shell', I'll inspect the case and make sure everything looks skippy.
6) Here's the moment of truth. I'll carefully undo the case locks, and s-l-o-w-l-y lift the lid to take a peek.
7) Once I change my diaper, I'll finally take it out of it's case and give it a really good once over to make sure it's okay
8) Once I'm satisfied, I'll FINALLY start to put it through it's paces.
9) After I've given it a setup and tired myself out, I'll usually end my night staring at it for the rest of the night, soaking in all of it's beautiful newness.

Life is good. ;)

I've always thought of it as kinda like the seen in Raiders Of The Lost Ark when they open the Ark and peer inside.

Minus the flying ghouls and resulting death, etc.
