I recently acquired an essentially brand new sparkle finish (red/orange?) SR5 in a trade. I was hesitant as I've heard that some EBMMs are heavier than boat anchors. Weighed her at work and she comes in at exactly at 10.3 lbs. According to this website, this is considered to be within normal range. What are the weights of your SR5s and have you had any trouble adjusting or acclimating to the increased mass?

Or should I just quit complaining and play the durn thing?

Thanks

I have a Stingray 5 that weighs 9 and change.

And a Bongo 5 that weighs 10 lbs 3 oz.

I love them both.

Hmmm....responses from Louisiana, Texas, and Alabama. Must be a southern thing. Thanks for the input!

I live north of the Mason Dixon line. I can assure you that 'rays have some heft up here too... no scale in my house, however. Solid. Not heavy, think of it that way... built to last.

No offense intended. I'm from outside Pittsburgh myself. No, I don't miss the snow. I think I can live with the 10 lbs provided she's not a neck-diver.

Never played a MusicMan with neck dive. My Bongo single H weighs in at 10 lbs. 4 ozs. and by Buttercream LE Bongo HH weighs in at 11 lbs. 10 ozs.

Add me to the southerners that are checking in.

Ahh, a native son... :D

Connellsville, Butler, and Grove City. My son goes to Slippery Rock. We were up in April and stayed downtown. Took my wife to the Strip District (DeLuca's, Primanti Bros.) and the Warhol Museum. She hasn't been the same since.

Here in Kansas the digital scales consists of the fingers on both hands.

I don't know what my SR5 weighs but it has seen a bunch of 4 plus hour gigs on my shoulder and never created an issue. Well there was that one when it was loud and angry sounding.:D

Maybe that's the reason all of us southerners know the weight of our basses.

Instead of shoveling snow, we weigh things.

The massive arm and shoulder muscles we yanks have from shoveling snow make the weight of our 'Rays insignificant, like mere toothpicks in our mighty hands...

Besides, I don't have a scale in my house. I am afraid to see my weight, nevermind the weight of my bass.

This young lady doesn't act like her SR5 is very heavy. :)

LE buttrercream 10.2 it balances perfectly, it's weight is normal and not an issue.

Definitely not an issue compared to 3 of my other old basses that weigh at/or near 11 lbs.

Assuming it's not equipped with accessory helium filled suspensors, below is the relative weight distribution table for your 10.3 lb SR5, like new in red/orange sparkle, with Regular Slinkys at standard tuning:

G .045 = 1.10357142857
D .065 = 1.5940476190
A .080 = 1.96190476
E .100 = 2.45238095
B .130 = 3.18809523

You may notice some dizziness at higher velocities,
otherwise, go ahead and play.

My Autumn RedBurst StingRay 5 weighs in at 11.2 pounds.

Its heavy, but once I start to play it, the tone makes me forget about the weight QUICK.
