Stainless vs Bronz, Nickel or Whatever

Hi:
Can anyone tell me why stainless versus anything else. I'd like to restring my Yamaha RBX 765A with something and would like some options. Thanks for the info, Bass Brothers!!

Stainless Steel strings are generally brighter with crisper highs, whereas nickle strings are slightly less bright and with more defined mids (from my experience).

Then of course you have flatwounds which are dull and warm, which some like.

Adding to what Masamax has said,
The pros - Stainless steel strings are louder than nickel strings and usually keep their new sound a bit longer than nickel strings

The cons - stainless steel strings are harder on the frets than nickel strings and will make more finger noise because they are brighter.

Bronze strings would be good if you have an acoustic bass guitar and want a mellow sound.

So I thought I would try stainless once and it really tore up my fingers. I was amazed how fast it put a blister on them. That's just me. The nickel I play all day and all night.

Flatwound strings are cool cause they dont hurt your fingers at all...and there easy on the frets...roundswounds rip the fingas a little more and tend to ruin frets faster... on a fretless use flats wont wear away at the wood on the neck...umm other then that i have nothing to say...ernie ball hybrid slinkys are good
