I know that the Stingray and Sterling pickups differ with the one being AlNiCo and the other being Ceramic, but what about the (3-band) preamps that each bass uses? Any differences between them? In this case, I'm asking specifically about the 4 string versions of each bass.

(As a side note for curiosity, does the Sterling Classic run the Stingray's 2 band preamp, or something unique?)

I do believe that the preamps are different and they are voiced for the different pickups but i'm not sure how they are different.

Yes, the same.

The Classic SR4, Classic SR5 and Classic Sterling are all 2EQ and each have the same preamp which is the same preamp as found in the standard SR4 2EQ both now and since the Pre-EB days.

I always thought MM voiced 2 band preamp for MM alnico pickups, not ceramic. It seems it also works with other pickups and other basses, great Leo Fender !!

..
It's turned into a two-way topic discussion which is causing confusion!

I've been referring to the "aside" that blindrabbit posed at the end of his initial thread.

Perhaps blindrabbit can start a new thread.
