Sterling Hiss, Weak Out

My Sterling puts out quite a lot of hiss, and its output seems weak compared to my other guitars.

The cable and amp are fine, because other guitars don't show this problem.

The battery is strong enough, and it's definitely making contact.

The output is usable, but I would have expected active circuitry to be hotter than passive, not the other way around.

The hiss is definitely a pain.

Help, please!

I should have mentioned that the hiss doesn't change with pickup setting or proximity to the amp. The only thing that changes it is the treble EQ knob, which increases the hiss when it's turned up. And it's a white-noiseish hiss, not a hum.

Thanks!
