I have a Sterling with a piezo.

If anyone out there has a Sterling w/piezo and one without, I have a question  . When using only the magnetic pickups only on both bases, do they sound basically identical? Or is there a huge difference? I am wondering if the electronics used with the piezo drastically alters the sound....

The reason why I am asking is because I have an old SR too, and the pickups in the two basses sound very different. I know they are different beasties, but the Magnetic Pickup in the Sterling is much noisier and not nearly as mellow as the SR.

well the peizo basses have a sepret volume for the peizo, so it should sound alot different between the peizo and the humbucker.. i also think the sterling uses a differnt type of magnent then the stingray, that what i hear tho.

There is a knob that mixes between the piezo and magnetic pick-ups- not a seperate volume. I am just wondering if due to the added electronics (because of the piezo), the magnetic pickups' sound is altered as opposed to "standard" Sterling.

Yes, I know there is a big difference between the Pickups of a Sterling and a SR.

I don't think so. I've had Stingray 5s with piezos and, with the piezo disengaged, they sounded just like Stingray 5s.

Thanks.

I have never played any other Sterling, so I don't have anything to compare it to.... Now I want a SR with a piezo! Damn you Music Man and your tonal goodness!.... A second mortgage is sounding good right now... well, food and shelter are over-rated anyway.
