Hey,

I am planning to buy a Steve Morse Standard 2nd Hand because I want a fat neck and I heard that the old ones have a thicker neck, before they re-scanned Steve's #1.
Does anybody know when they changed it?

I could get a Serial G24110. Is this one old enough to have a fatter neck

Thx

They got a little thinner when the Y2D was introduced in 2007 (I think). They re-scanned Steve's #1 which had been worn down over the years, and both models got the profile to match.

It's a little thinner, but I wouldn't say it's a huge difference. I've never heard the original referred to as "fat". Now, if you want a larger neck profile, see if you can find a Darklord Morse- that has a bigger neck profile.

As for the serial, post it in the serial # thread and they'll tell you when it was built.

if you want a Morse with a fat neck, you should check out the "Dark Lord" or the new SM model with 2 humbuckers and reverse headstock - those got a 1959 LP shape neck, wich is way fatter as the regular SM neck, but still nice to play!

iirc the change went at the same time when they introduced the compensated nut which would mean:
simple nut = old neckshape on the Morse
compensated nut = new neckshape

"fat" isn´t the right word, I´d say it´s a medium C shape (mine from 2005 has the old neckshape)

Do all Dark Lords have the 59-shape or just the first run with the BFR-Logo?
