Stingray consistency

Ok this question was hidden in previous post.

Is there more consistency in the tone and weight etc. of the MM Stingray model or are they all over the place, some great, some ok and some suck? I hear that variety of description mentioned when some Fender models are being discussed.
Has anyone ever bought a Stingray that they immediately sold because it was less then expected? A real dog maybe?
This maybe a stupid question but I'm serious. I'd like to hear opinions on this.

The pre-EBs were kinda all over the place. Some were just drop-dead awesome and some were "less then expected." I think it stems from the growing pains of a small company and less then stellar quality control.

I think that since the EB takeover, the basses are more-or-less on the same page. You are always going to have that "one" bass that stands out in either direction but EB's quality control is great!!!! And if something happens to slip through, EB's customer service blows Fender, and most other bassmakers, out of the water!

Yea, by far the best quality when it comes to "mass produced" basses.

Dave, I remember when I bought Heinz The Wonder Bass, I was talking long distance to a guy in upstate NY about which SR5 to get. He was getting a shipment in and was willing to pick one out for me. I said, "I don't care about color, just play 'em and send me the best one."

He said, "Pick your color. There are no Stingray dogs."

I think he was pretty much on the money. Yes, occasionally things happen along the way, but by and large, it's hard to go wrong with a modern EBMM bass.

And, in the off chance that something DOES go wrong, guess what? You got the best customer service imaginable to make it right again.
