I notice that there are two shapes to Stingray pickguards. One is a smaller round pickguard that doesn't extend to the volume/tone control knobs and one is a larger pickguard that does extend to the control knobs.

Is there any significance to the different styles of pickguards? Do they come on different models, or are the basses different in some way beside the pickguard?

Thanks,

Sounds like you're on about the 4 string and 5 strings Stingrays. The 4 string one is the teardrop shaped one that doesn't cover the controls (2version for the different trussrod arrangements) and the one that covers the control area is on the 5 string 'rays. :)
