Stingray pup wiring help needed (ignore the thumbs-down, i'm a moron)

Hi all -

I just bought a Stingray pup off the 'bay, and could use some help wiring it up. It has 4 conductors, although it looks like it may be missing a shield. They are:

neck side: black & green
bridge side: red & white

The black and white are twisted together, so I assume I would tie the red and green together, and use the black and white to run it in standard, parallel mode.

What I'd really like, is to wire it up single (bridge side)/parallel/series using an on-on-on DP3T switch. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

As far as the modified wiring with a switch, you may get some PM's if anyone knows how to do it.

That appears to be an aftermarket pickup. The stock SR pickup is 2 conductor wired parallel.

Nope, that's a stocker that they added wires to. I bought the preamp from the same guy and it's a modded original Ray pickup. It'll sound great once you get it back to stock.

Yeah - I found those pics earlier. Unfortunately, mine looks to be a post-2003, and there aren't any pics of the underside. However, after pulling the coils out of the housing and looking more closely, I can see that there isn't a missing 5th conductor, it's just the way the white lead wraps around the bobbin plate and then solders to the end of the windings from underneath.

If anyone can weigh in on the single/series/parallel issue, I'd sure appreciate it...

Series/Parallel won't be a Problem, Having that single coil on a 2 bobbin Pickup will be very noisy, Why not get it wired stock and go buy a sterling. You'll save many headaches and less hassel with switches etc.

Cool! How do I get it back to stock?

Hmm, it looks like the white wire is still connected correctly, take the black wire off and run it through the hole on the same coil as the white wire and solder it on underneath like the white wire is soldered. Then put that coil in the "upper" coil hole in the pickup cover as below:

Take the other coil and orient it with the solder lugs away from the other coil as in the pic above, but outside the pickup cover. The original jumper colors are orange and green but you can use the red and green yours came with if you shorten them. They need to go through the hole in the coil and attach underneath in the coil that's outside the cover.

Then drop the second coil in so it's oriented like in the pic above and connect the jumper wires to the other coil. When you get it all done the resistance should be about 1.8K ohms at the white and black wires. That's the stock parallel wiring. You want the twisted white/black wire bundle to come out towards the single lug so it'll be long enough to attach to the preamp so you have to put the coils into the cover in that way.

You rock! Thanks for the pics and the tips. I got the pickup rewired last night and will be installing it as soon as I finish routing. Everything checks out electrically, so let's hope it sounds the way I anticipate...
