Stomp box overload

I have been switching strings a lot lately, and earlier this week I put on a set that goes from 45 to 135, stainless steel. Felt real good, and sounded mighty commanding thru my Bass Cube at home.
But then I got to rehersals, plugged the Bongo into my pedals and started playing. Turns out that with the fatty B on the HH Bongo 5, the input circuit of my EBS MultiComp gets overloaded.
So the solutions I see to this are as follows:

1) Ditch the compressor.
2) Lower the pick ups.
3) pad the signal before it reaches the box.
4) Go lighter on the string gauges (with a 130 B it works)
5) Learn to use the FX loop on my amp.

Heh, I just realized 5), that using the FX loop is the solution, so you can all just ignore this post if you like

Did that rehearsing, but that's not really practical for me when playing live. I'm the kind of guy jumping around a lot, and I have enough problems keeping my eq knobs in check. The only reason i don't bypass them is that they've got center detents.
