stripping off the finish?

Dont panic...its not to my beloved Axis!

I have a beater guitar that I want to remove the paint finish from and return back to natural wood for a natural oil/wax body look.

Have any of you guys ever done this and have any advice?

I was thinking about just using sandpaper but wondered if using paintstripper or another chemical treatment is a good shortcut or will it simply ruin things since I plan to do the body with a simple oil/wax look?

yeh. I have done this to a Hamer steve stevens. I used a combination of chemical stripper and a heat gun....but i dont advise both at the same time. BOOM!The heat gun worked best for me, but you have to be realy careful, unless you want that scorched look! I finished off the mahogany body and neck with Holland oil and it looks realy good. I left the headstock painted with the Hamer logo.

Best get a few more replies b 4 you try. It took me a while.

hopefully there is no fullerplast underneath. that stuff is BRUTAL !!!!!
there are different types of strippers out for different types of finishes. what's on it now ????

I know a guy here that had a stripper girlfriend. He said he was cool with it, in fact he almost would brag about it. The relationship ended abruptly the night he decided to go see her work for the first time. Let say he was ejected from the venue via the rear. Turns out he had a jealous streak.

ive used Jasco paint remover on 2 guitars ... both beaters. The stuff works. you pour it on, let it sit, the paint bubbles, then you more or less wipe it off.

Im not a pro so i dunno if this stuff's bad for the wood, but it sure as hell will remove paint from anything
