Then again that's MF. Deal with a private guy's always the best...Pets with the same config as mine have sell for about $200 more than what I paid.

hmm... Prices are a little higher than I thought they'd be...

Yeah, me too....apparently the prices EBMM quoted in the press releases were the dealer selling cost, not the suggested retail price.

(What's up with that? I've never heard of a manufacturer quoting a dealer street price before...)

I'll match Musicians Fiend-30% off list!
I guess I did misread that

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (January 29, 2004) - Music Man proudly unveils its new SUB 1 Guitar, a mid- priced American-made guitar manufactured at the company's San Luis Obispo, CA factory. At just $595-$695, it's affordable to abroad-range of consumers, and features the same quality and performance synonymous with Music Man instruments.

Is what is said on the EBMM news page

By my math (if the numbers shown above are the list price) the HH Trem model should be had for $486.50

Either way, it's cool that he'll match that MF-level discount as an indie dealer.

Secret (shhhh!): Theoretically, any music retailer can do this. All the musical manufacturers have a generic price list with various suggested percentage off breakdowns, and sellers pick and choose which they wanna use when the make a sale. That's what a salesguy does when he says "lemme go ask my manager" when you run a lowball price by 'em. Of course, the more stuff a dealer sells, the lower his per-item cost is, and the lower you can get 'em (usually, but not always, if you're scraping the bottom of the bucket and they're giving you a good percentage off up front).

Remember, anything above what the dealer pays to a manufacturer is all gravy....and some like (or legitimately need, if they're a mom n' pop shop) more gravy than others! What's cool these days is that there's lots more competition, so you see a lot of the same discount prices at a lot of different dealers, even the smaller ones. Apparently they've figured out the WalMart approach of "sell more volume at a smaller profit" is scalable and the often smarter way to go if a particular market's condition allows it.

I have a buddy that is a dealer and he's going to setup my Silo order at an unbelievably rock bottom price for what I want. He's given some sweet quotes to Deadringer also.

Actually no...I'm changing the electronics out to two 'buckers. I had a coupla guitars over the past few years that had the Piezo. not really a fan since I don't have the rig to substantiate running the Piezo (I'm a nut case, I'd love to have a PA to run the piezo thru hehehe....). PLus I'm more into guitars that are simple but elegant these days.

Hey guys, Doug here. I was the dealer letting you know that I'll match MF at 30% off LIST. Music Man has changed all the rules with the new SUB pricing. It's going to confuse everyone. The prices they list are now the dealer SELLING price. There is not really a LIST price on these. I suppose it's whatever the dealer wants to list it at. I believe they are doing that to entice the "mid market" customer, and not scare them away from the traditional high end price tag.

Also, one more note: Dealers are not allowed to advertise any more than 30% off list per dealer agreement with MM (and most every other dealer) Otherwise you can lose your dealership.

Very shortly, the only place you will be able to buy guitars and amps will be E- (vil)Bay, and Musicians Fiend. No sense in maintaining stores.

I talked to a EB/MM dealership in PA and they told me that they were selling them for $650'ish.
