Sub Silo 3 Pickup Upgrade

I have a Sterling Sub Silo 3 since they came out and really love everthing about it but wish the humbucker had more oomph. Has anyone upgraded the pickups and can share their thoughts or can anyone make some suggestions on which humbucker pickup would work on this guitar. Looking for a 80's Hard Rock tone primarily.
 
Up here in canada the stores only seem to stock regular spaced humbuckers...is it okay to put one in the Silo 3 (does it make a diffrence?)
 
I would recommend the F-Spaced if that is what it needs - the outer pole pieces will line up better.

I would also recommend ordering from the internet - you can get exactly what you want at probably a keener price.
 
A Transition would sound great, I really dig the tone they provide in the LIII line, aggressive but controllable.
 
I just bought a Silo 3 and am getting lots of hum out of the neck pickup and the middle pickup. Seems fine in the combo neck/middle and middle/bridge positions. I'm using a Vox Valvtronix TV 20+ amp. Why the hum? What's the fix?
 
Single coils are noisy, that's how it goes. When combined you get a noise-cancelling effect (just like a humbucker).

If the noise is an issue you could look at getting noiseless pickups (which are really humbuckers voiced as single coils). Or use less gain when using the singles on their own.

Thanks Beej, I knew single coils were noisy but you have good suggestions. Thanks for responding!
 
No problem! There are some great noiseless single coils on the market these days. I like Bill Lawrence L200s-price can't be beat and they're very stratty. Dimarzio makes some great ones as well- the Area series, or the Injectors if you like more output. Lots of others as well.
