The one thing I don't have in my recording arsenal is a LP-type guitar. How close is a Super Sport to LP territory?

The wood choices, longer scale, and bolt on neck are going to impact things pretty heavily as well.

I would say an ALHH with the solid Rosewoood neck is the closest to a Les Paul in the EBMM line. It has the same pickups as the Axis but the wood choices make it sound different, at least to my ear.

What about the Reflex (or 25th anniversary)? I have seen very few of them here in darkest Pareeee but when I did I thought LP.

I actually have thought about the AL HH. May need to revisit this. Don't tell the wife...

You cannot go wrong with an AL HH !
The only things you don't have with the AL are the 2 volume knobs and 2 tone knobs for mixing the sound between the 2 humbuckers.

I have two Super Sports, and one set up with great LP tones.
As others have pointed out, you will need a pickup swap. After trying many different sets of PAF-style pickups from several manufacturers, I settled on the BKP Abraxas. The Suhr Thornbucker Plus is another great option. YMMV, but I LOVE putting lower-output pickups in the Axis SS guitars. It brings out a versatility and dynamics that aren't there with the DiMarzios, imho.

I'm a huge BK pickups fan. I have an Abraxas set in an LP Standard and they sound great. I also have an Abraxas and two Mother's Milk in a Silo Special.
They're very warm and have some bite. Hotter than regular PAFs but definitely not as hot as Axis pickups. Though the Axis humbuckers are my favorites of all time.
