How big a deal is it to swap out the old style tuners in my AL with newer locking tuners? Are any modifications (i.e. new holes need to be drilled) needed to the headstock or is it a straight bolt on swap?

I had it apart this weekend to change out the pickguard and it was cut wrong so I had to restring while I ship the old pickguard back. I'll have to do it all again when the new one arrives and this made me realize how much I love the locking tuners on my other guitars...

i put locking tuners on my 90 morse w/o new holes. using low profile lock washers.

No mods allowed my fanny. So was steve Morse guilty when he added a synth pickup to his no. 1?
It's my guitar and I will do as I please because it makes me happy. If I am to be accused I hope Luke is on the panel of judges.
Fred, I swapped out the tuners on my SiLO bass with the locking tuners. The only hole I had to drill was in the machine head to accept the low E string. Worked for me.

What, I can't play... :confused:

Hey, I have a (stupid) question... I know you can tighten or loosen a tuner's action via the little screw in the top edge of the tuner button, but if I wanted to swap out my tuner buttons with a different kind, is it just a matter of removing that screw and then sitting the new button on the tuner and replacing the screw? or are there little springs or crap that can fall out and ruin my whole day?

Thats just how you do it. No springs to be found!

there is a washer that acts like a spring between the button & the case of the tuner. thats wahat gives u the ability to vary the action of the tuner key. they are able to come off.:)

question not stupid.......
