My wife is an accountant first and foremost, a big time accountant that manages a billion dollar business, but, in her heart, an accountant. She takes as much joy in “running some numbers” as I do in playing the bass. So when tax time comes around we never have to call H&R Block, she has our taxes ready the day she gets her W-2.

Getting ready to do the taxes always brings out “interesting” patterns of spending here at the Psycho household, stuff like how much we spent on the cars, electricity, clothes, plus the dreaded “Do you know how much money you spent on music equipment” report! (I Hate IT!)

This year the total came to (exactly…) $14,974.62!!! :eek: (I fully expect to see that tattooed to my forehead soon!)

From the pictures we've been "exposed" to Chuck, surely all the money you are saving on not wearing clothes should be taken into account in your favour! Then again cowboy boots can be expensive (not that I'd know)!

I used to work at a local music shop when I was right out of college. In the year I worked there, I probably ended up not making a penny 'cause I spent just as much money there as what they paid me. :D

We spent 15,900.00 last year also......ON MORTGAGE:eek:

On the other hand, how many bits of musical instrument did you sell .. and is the 15K actually the resultant imbalance, or does it represent only the expenditure side of the equation ?? I bet it's all tax decuctable over there in the land of the free (or in your case, the land of the fairly expensive !!)

My wife has an odd tendency to be able to overlook the income when she looks at my expenditure .. and vice versa for vice versa ...

I try to keep my annual "musical spend" within 4-digits to help keep it under the radar... ;)
 
Wow, Chuck! I'd be dead with that budget!

Seriously, a typical year for me includes purchases of strings, fast fret, and polishing cloths. I've spent more on gear in the last two years than I have the rest of my life in total. I think I'm done for a while, although I am reserving some $$ for a mythical EB Wah pedal.

I actually bought a cheap-o wah just to get me through the interim. I hate it. :(
 
I was actually around $500 in the black on bass gear this year. Sold a Lakland, bought a Bongo, and pocketed the difference. I'm hoping to pick up a 30th Anniversary Ray this year and still break even after selling some stuff off.
