I'd like your opinions on this one. Quite coincidentally, my brother and I both have EBMM guitars from 1994. I have an Oct94 EVh owned from new and my brother has an Apr94 Luke 1 he bought used a couple of years ago. They are both stunningly good instruments, play and sound like a dream and the build quialty is practically flawless. Last week whilst playing, I asked my brother if he thought the new EBMM guitars were as well made as these ones and he reckoned they are not. I know the old argument about played in guitars ageing gracefully and feeling better etc, but can't help but wonder. My EVH has given 10yrs service with only a couple of truss rod adjustments and normal set ups, but my new Sil Spec has been sent back twice due to flaws in the paintwork. What do you guys reckon? :confused:
 
I have EBMM guitars dating from 1994 up to 2003, and I don't see any significant differences in quality between any of them. Some are better guitars than others, but they're all far better in terms of fit and finish than just about any of the mass produced guitars you'll find on the market today, especially what's coming from the big three... I'm sorry you've had trouble with your Sil. Spec. - what was the problem, exactly?
 
I agree that EBMM have superior fit and finish to just about any mass produced guitars on the market. It could just be bad luck that I have not been satisfied with my recent Sil Spec (neck pocket cracked twice - don't want to start that whole argument on the forum again) wheras my EVH has been problem free. My replacement should arrive in the next month or so- I'll reserve judgement until then. However, I will lose faith if the paintwork is not flawless this time... :(
 
For the record I got my axis in September 04 after first giving it a test drive in March/April time, after joining the forum I discovered it was built September 01, making it over 3 years old. Thats 3 years with the same strings and setup after it being shipped from the USA to the UK and who knows what else.

It was the best instrument I had got my mits on in 11 years of playing, and that includes PRS 10tops and what have you.

I still haven't touched the setup as I still think it's spot-on, so if they came better made than that 10 years ago I'd love to hear about it :D

I currently have 3 JP's and have never had any issues with either of them. I have read about the stress crack issues and all the other stuff that has happened. I think that with the amount of guitars produced, sometimes, S&*T happens. With that said, it has not happened to me, so I cannot say how I would feel then. I do know from past posts that all the guitars sent back were replaced (body wise I believe) and that to me is something that is overlooked. I know you have issues with your Silo, and it is frustrating to have them, twice even, but, with all the guitars they have replaced, plus the man hours used to do this re-work, really puts them (EBMM) out there. For them to do that and not give the proverbial, "It's only a blemish or this is to be expected" kind of answer says alot. I think the build quality is outstanding today as it was then. Yes, I have played older model guitars from EBMM to include the EVH (nice axe by the way). Of course, this is only my opinion.
 
I just got a JP6 in December '04, and the work quality is first-rate. The instrument feels like the whole thing was carved from the same piece of wood.. it's so incredibly solid. And the sound is so good that even my *drummer* noticed that it sounds better than my other guitars.. and we all know drummers... :rolleyes:

Me neither.

Btw, I've owned 2 EB's, no problems at all. As someone else said, if you build a fair amount of guitars, a few crappers might get through. I've never heard a complaint about EB service though...if they screw up, they'll fix it. I've talked to them on the phone a few times, they're good folks.
