I was just remembering the first time I wanted to play bass. It was after hearing the theme to Barney Miller when it first came on TV...yes, that was a loooonnng time ago! :eek:

That bassline hooked me in big time. I was total doomed when my friends older brother, who played bass, played it for me one day at his house...way cool!!! :cool:

What was the bass line that got you hooked on bass?
 
One word for you:
Motown

On second thought, that isn't a hook. So I would have to say Pictures Of You from Cure. That really opened my eyes as a young boy as to what bass could be.

"Can't Buy Me Love" really solidified the whole deal, but I think that step up in "I Want To Hold Your Hand" did something to my brain and I never got better.
 
Being a true 80's child - Planet Earth Night Version (Duran Duran) - but there is a lot of Motown in there too :D
 
The album "Romantic Warrior" by Return to Forever.

But after growing up and all - Anything Motown/George Clinton/70's Funk is what gets me hot... ;)
 
Something about a funky motown bass line that makes me want to grow a mustache and get a swagger...

be gentle with me....... Gene Simmons was the reason I wanted to play bass, the boots were way too cool. Then I heard Stu Hamm(Terminal Beach),Eric Avery(the entire Jane's catalog) and the line for "Cult of Personality" and everything else from Vivid by MUZZ SKILLINGS. :D and have pleasantly never looked back.

Hey! Gene is the mack daddy of rock and roll. Persona can go a long way. I have always been a BIG KISS fan. Got my wife hooked on them by taking her to concerts from the last 3 KISS tours. You are in good company my friend, fear not!!! ;)

Night Court theme song was a synthesizer, along with Seinfeld theme song, and others.

Living Colour happens to be a long time fav of mine. And yeah, Muzz was pretty bad to the bone.

Someone else thought the Barney Miller theme was cool too! Wow! I had my bass teacher teach that to me very early on. I think even he had a time with it. Fear not Midopa, Tommy the Cat kicks serious boo-tay, along with Jerry was a Race Car Driver and many other Primus tunes.

There are so many good songs that got me going on bass, it would take forever and a day to list them. But anything funky was always a winner!

You sure? I know that Seinfeld is, but if you listen to the high fill notes it really sounds like a bass. Anyway, it's not a synth when I play it. It is a fun line. ;)
