To all the new owners of a HH stingray, are you blown away with the now having 2 pickups on the musicman. Have you sold your 1 pickup stingray?

Id like some opinions about how more versatile or impressions from users please.

yes!

i LOVE the SR4 HH. before the HH i had a Stingray and sold it because it wasnt for me. Im a huge fan of the Sterlings (I have 4) and the SR4 HH gets more playing time than any of the Sterlings.

Its super versetile, wayyyyy more so than the standard sr4. youve got stingray tones, a p bass tone, a jazz bass tone and much more.

you really cant regret and sr4HH. its amazing!
 
Heres the thing, the new 2 pickup models are awesome. But the single pickup models are awesome too. So essentially you have the choice of 4 great pickup combos (H, HP, HS, HH) I dont think many people are running off to sell their single H Rays so they can get a dual bucker. I think its more of a thing to consider now when buying a new ray, cause for a minor upcharge you can get a wider variety of tones, while still having what we all know and love in a StingRay. Thats my 2 cents. Oh and incase you're wondering, I'm definately going to get an HH StingRay but there's no way I'm parting with any of my single H Rays.
 
I like the dualies a lot. However, I still use the bridge pickup only position about 80% of the time. If I had a Single pickup Ray that I loved, I would try to find a way to keep both.

If i can keep both i would, its a compromise for me of baby wife and bass playing and how many basses im allowed to have around the house before it drives her mad, then she drives me mad, i guess you get the picture. I do love my stingray but the option of the HH looks enticing, thanks for the replies.

i say go for it unless you have a HUGE sentimental tie to your current bass, if it plays like no other (has mojo), or if its SUPER rare (trans white, 20th anniv). if not, you can always buy one like it again right?

old SR5HH - used bridge pup all the time.

Still want a HH SR4 but sell my singles? well, perhaps one
of them . .

I also want to pick up an old 2-band SR4H one of these days
 
I've been using an SR4 since the early 90's so it's what I'm familiar with. I was in GC the other day and they had an SR4 HH on the floor. So, I decided to plug it in and give it a try.

Realize that I was playing at very low volume levels but I did not hear a huge difference between the pickup positions. I did hear a slight difference but I could have used any pickup position in any playing setting.

Now maybe at gig levels the difference is greater. I felt like I could have gotten greater tonal variations with my right hand technique (and certainly with the eq) than with the pickup selector.

I thought, being new to EBMM basses, that I would use some combo of the two pickups most of the time - but on my Sterling HS and my SR5 HS - I am using the humbucker a lot. I really like the tone of my Bongo 4 H.

I'm finding the same thing with my Sterling HH, there's a big difference in sound between position 1 (bridge H only) and all the others, but the other 4 sound only mildly different. I always just assume that I'm a tool and not hearing what everyone else is...

I'm really a set it and forget it kind of guy. I don't do a whole lot of knob (and now switch) fiddling.
 
One thing to consider is that the single H SR5s and Sterlings have the series position for the humbucker, which the multi-pickup basses don't have. I love that position -- it's extra strong and bassy on the upper strings -- so I'd hate to give it up.
 
With the sterlings (HH, HS, H) ive noticed that if im in clipping then all positions sound similar. HOWEVER... if im in the "safe zone" personally I hear HUGE differences between ALL the settings!

i think on an HH postions 2 and 4 are more similar than any other 2 and even between those i notice a difference.

I played Paul's HH Stingray over here last week and noticed big differences in the tone with different positions on the switch.

That's the main thing I like about my HH SR5...I can get enough tonal variety without having to mess with the eq. I haven't had it on a gig yet, though...things may change when faced with a loud git-tar and drummer. Overall, I think if I had it to do over again, I'd buy an HS though.
