thinking of getting a new bass

i recently played on a HH stingray and thought it was the most amazing thing ever. it was the only thing that had not only that really sweet feeling to it but also twice the warmth of a thunderbird bass and thats saying a lot. the only thing is i love my current one H stingray to death and would never part with it and since im considering getting a new bass to have something different ive also taken into looking into upright basses. ive really liked the idea of learning to play with a bow and really feel nothing sounds like an upright. so what should i get here, a new stingray or an upright?

You're not alone. It is. I'm currently in the process of selling all my StingRays that aren't HH's. The StingRay HH is the Sabre reborn. And it totally, absolutely kills!
 
It's a toughie if you really do want an upright. However, that will cost you a lot more, so if you buy the HH you will have made a dent in the upright fund, but it is by no means the end of the world!

I was lucky enough to be given an upright, which left me rich enough to be able to buy a Bongo...so there's the trick, find a generous lovely person first.
 
I started out on bass guitar and now upright is my main instrument (I'm now an orchestral musician). The crappy thing about it is $1500-$2000 can get you a top quality bass guitar but spend that much on an upright and it'll be made of paper mache. I obviously have no regrets, and encourage you to go for it, just be aware it could become expensive.
 
Get a new Classic series Stingray with the mute bridge, put some EB Flats on it, and you have the best of both worlds if you need an upright sound from time to time.
 
this "mute" bridge sounds awesome. can i get any sound clips of it or anything? i already got flats on the thing and if i can get my stingray sounding more like an upright through some kind of bridge modification i might be up for that. how expensive would upgrading the bridge to the classic one be and how major a surgery?

im not willing to sell my H for a HH because the H is the best sounding thing in the world to me, the HH is just a little bit nicer :)

as for upright basses im looking for something good in the 1500-2000 range and thats actually fairly low end for uprights!

Hey Kevins, IMHO, Never Hesitate to stock up on EBMM basses, sacrificing my upright was how I leveraged/liberatedmy latest SR5from the rack at L&M:cool::)

Curious: Have you ever played an upright?

Forget the bridge upgrade; the tabled suggestion is that you purchase a classic reissue that will be available early next year; no bridge mod/upgrade available. What are you trying to accomplish with the subject purchase? A specific sound for a specific need or GAS satisfaction? If you're looking for an EBMM alternative to an upright, then an HS piezo might be the answer.
 
kind of actually, if i can get the upright sound out of this thing with some kinda upgrade id be more than happy with it, with the 3eq and flatwounds i have a pretty darn close sound to it, but i love the sound of uprights.
 
wait the reissue is next year???! i thought it was out now, im probobly going to definitely get that next year if possible. if they're reissuing the stingray all up to its orriginal specs i may have to buy that thing but will it come in...HH form??!??! for the hell of it? and when is this thing coming out, cause if i can get classic upright sounds out of the reissue id probobly start saving for it now!


and yes ive played uprights before nothing sounds like them, the stingray is my favorite electric by far but i love the sound of the classic upright

As the poster above said - a really good upright will be expensive and a pain to transport (as BP said). I have an Electric Upright and it nails the upright sound and is really easy to transport (like moving a 51" 2x4). My EUB was under $1000.

That being said - I take my Bongo HSP fretless to most gigs.
 
Nothing was mentioned about the upcoming classics to be available in fretless which you will need to cop an upright sound in addition to the mutes.

I have an upright and to me the defining quality of playing it is the 41" scale and not the sound.
 
these upcoming stingrays sound too awesome to pass up, and ill probobly start saving for one soon, but where are the details on these things, and how much better than my 3 eq 4 string single h would it be?

Why is there not an acoustic EBMM bass? Seems that it would be a sweet addition for we EBMM addicts :)

Semi-hollow body with piezo pickup. I know the magicians at EBMM would make it a unique and awesome bass. Whoa!!!...heart is thumping!!!
