so, i got this bass yesterday. this morning i realized that the serial number is ground off of the bridge. there was no mention of this in the auction and i didn't think to ask before i bought it. what would you guys do? i've been thinking writing the seller and asking them about it. i also want to try to contact Erik Cartwright and see if he remembers this bass. what other reason would there be to grind off a serial number than if it was stolen?

that auction was always fishy looking to me. The neck is still confusing me.

I think that should definitely have been mentioned in the auction, but it is conceivable that someone may not have noticed (don't know how obvious it is without seeing it).

While I wholeheartedly agree you should get a refund, and that a ground off serial implies a stolen instrument, there is a memory lurking in the back of my head about this bass being mentioned by Rick Turner in reference to the first Electroline prototype he built. I'll see what I can find...
BTW, have you tried getting in touch with the original owner, whom i think is also the one who ordered the bass to be modified by a luthier?

To be honest such a fuss was being made at the time plus in the back of his mind knowing how cheap he purchased it for. It was such a shock to everyone. I don't think he would have bought it at the time had he known it was stolen. I'm glad the guy got his guitar back plus I'm sure my mate will never buy under suspect circumstances again either.maddog said:

Hey Mr. Light, the GC in Sherman Oaks has a Pre-EB SR, I thinks. I played it once and found it quite nice! Check it out!
