I have recently purchased a EBMM Bongo 4 string HH and I think it is great. One con was a little tinny sounding. I use spector nickle strings on my spector and they have a really warm sound. I was thinking of trying some spector strings on the Bongo. Anyone out there tried spectors on a Bongo or have any other suggestions??

where was the eq on the Bongo set ? Now, do you mean 'tinny' as thin sounding or tinny as clanky metallic sounding?
I use nickels and the Bongo was strung from the factory with EB nickels so the Spectors should work, and if you're used to their sound already then I'd say it's worth a try.

ps. I know that the sound of a Bongo is going to have more mids (upper especially) in it compared to an EMG equipped Spector so maybe that "tinny-ness" is the openess of the Bongo p/u's and pre-amp. NOT better or worse than the Spector just different. Like the difference between a spruce top and a cedar top on an acoustic guitar.

As someone who greatly favors flatwounds, I can say that the Spectors are not my thing *at all* with roundwounds, true for me concerning just about any bass ever made, however .... Bongos I can dig with RW or flats, maybe the only bass anywhere that I really dig with RW's. If Bongos could sound tinny, I could never dig them with RW's. Even the GnLs I do not like with RW's. To me, the Bongo is the last bass anywhere anytime I could ever imagine calling tinny. Either you need batteries or there is a real problem with that ax.

Let me re-state.
Hey everyone, let me say I just meant it sounded a little tinny compared to the spector with spector strings. i. e. I once put a set of Hybrid Slinky's on my Spector and they came off the very next day. Just sounded clangier and thinner. I thought the Spector strings on the Bongo may have somewhat a reverse effect. I guess I just need to spend the $25 and find out as those strings sounded soooooooo much richer to me. Don't get me wrong, I love my new Bongo and hope I did not offend any of you Bongoloids out there, as I consider myself one now too.
