Hi Jon!

I need to shim my EBMM Luke I guitars to be able to have the Floyd Rose trem raised higher and still have the same string height. Right now I have a neck that is very straight, but not to straight, and my string height is factory recommended. My trem is so far into the body its practically touching the guitar with the underside of the trem. Soooo...

How big are the factory installed shims that you can find on some Music Man guitars? Also what materials do you use?

I've never needed to shim any of my guitars, but I remember a few people here saying that they've used these:

  • Matchbook cover
  • Credit Card (Old)

.012 .016 .020 They are made of plastic and are used to compensate for the lack of inividual saddle height adjustment on the Floyd Rose trem.

Are you talking about bridge shims or neck shims?
 
Other things that can be used as a neck shim:

--Cardboard like the kind used for a cereal box
--A shaved piece of wood....though it can be hard to cut it that thin and accurately

I am talking about neck shims, it seems like Jon thought i ment bridge shims. Could I please get that info instead Jon?

Not in the long run...They will get thinner over time.

I asked because I don't see how a neck shim can make up for a lack of invididual bridge saddle adjustments. A neck shim can raise or lower one or both sides of a neck as a whole, but a neck shim can't fine tune individual string heights to the extent that individuals saddles allow.

Hilarious. Just trying to positively reinforce another person that they weren't the only one with the same issues, and a big joke is made out of it.
 
i use the thin martin triangle picks.....cut them to the size i need. they are wide enough , thin enough......&
they don't compress like cardboard does after while........:)
