What is your favorite song of the 80's? I really like Im Gonna Be 500 Miles by the Proclaimers. I have been a fan of theirs for the past 20 years and I really enjoy watching their transformation through out the years. They just came out with a new CD called Life With You which I think is some of their best work they have put out so far. If you want to check out what they have been up to all these years, you can go to their myspace (http://www.myspace.com/theproclaimers). Check out the contest they have going with Jeremy Fisher at Jeremy Fisher/The Proclaimers Tickets Contest. If you enter, you have a chance to win tickets to see The Proclaimers and Jeremy Fisher live!

There were no good hit songs in the 80's.

Just kidding. I'll go with Huey Lewis & the News, and Michael Jackson's truly great years were the 80's.

'We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
Because your friends don't dance
and if they don't dance, then they're no friends of mine.'

or..

'Everybody have fun tonight
Everybody Wang Chung tonight'

Ah, those were the days!!

Billy Squire - The Stroke
Judas Priest - Living After Midnight (and lots more!)
VH - Jump, Panama, Hot for Teacher....
Whitesnake - Here I Go Again
Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil, Too Young to Fall in Love, Looks that Kill
Ratt - Round and Round
Twisted Sister - We're Not Going to Take it

As I grew up in the '80s my list is quite extensive and yet very incomplete. To me these songs stand out and come to mind at first (the Rush list could have been much longer):

Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
Journey - Send Her My Love
U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name
Boston - Amanda
U2 - Pride (In The Name Of Love)
Toto - Africa
Toto - Rosanna
Asia - Heat Of The Moment
Whitesnake - Still Of The Night
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O Mine
Guns N Roses - Paradise City
Rush - Spirt Of Radio
Rush - Freewill
Rush - Subdivisions
Rush - Force 10
Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart
Yes - Love Will Find A Way
Foreigner - I Want To Know What Love Is
Police - King Of Pain
Police - Every Breath You Take
Ozzy - Crazy Train

Man the 80's is a hard year to choose from.

But to be honest, I think the most influential and important to me personally, was Michael Jackson.

Yeah, I admit it. Morse, EJ, Satch, and JP are my favorite musicians and I'm a huge Michael Jackson fan.

"Safety Dance"- Men without Hats. Although let it be known that the dance was as safe as they said it was.
They are known today as "Men without Jobs".

Journey rule!!! I like STone In Love, and Seperate Ways, and Lights. AWESOME BAND!

"Just the same way" totally rocks...always loved that song.

"After the fall" gets an honorable mention because aside from being used in Risky Business....it brings back some cool high school memories.

Africa by ToTo, happens to be my favourite song of ever and ever.

Animal by Def Leppard, I remember bouncing round like a loonball to this on my 18th Birthday before I got blind drunk on many ice cold beers. Woke up in the wee hours with the hangover from hell listening to Superstition by Europe from the Out Of This World album, love the guitar solo by Kee Marcello on that.
Crazy Nights by Kiss
Still Of The Night by Whitesnake
Just Like Living In Paradise by David Lee Roth
Dont Stop Believin by Journey
Out In The Fields or The Loner by Gary Moore
Tunnel Of Love or Telegraph Road ( both live versions by Dire Straits, Knopfler rules.....end of ! )
Native Son by Bryan Adams from the Into The Night album, another great guitar solo by Keith Scott, very Knopfler like.
Run Like Hell ( live version ) by Pink Floyd
Beat It by Wacko ( Eddies solo and brown guitar sound are awesome )
Fields Of Fire or Look Away by Big Country ( Stuart Adamson RIP )
All Night Long by Lionel Ritchie makes me remember being off school for the Summer Holidays, going to New Brighton or Southport checking out the local hotties !

I always remember the first time I heard Running With The Night by Lionel Ritchie and Rosanna by ToTo because of Lukes guitar solo's. Its those moments where you STOP doing what you were doing and sit open mouthed at the genius, oblivious to anyone else and your surroundings. ( Good job I wasnt a Lollipop man eh ! )
Luke, thats why you are and always will be my hero !
