Trem setup on EBMM Luke

Hey guys,

great hang you have here. I have owned a couple of MM for ages but just discovered this.

anyway: I have been trying to set up the trem on my Lukes so that can pull it up about 3 semitones on the B string flagiolet. You know, like Luke does in the solo of Better World. However, I can't seem to make it work on the high strings without the trem being tilted too much.... Any input would be great here.

what guage strings you use ?
is it a luke 1 or 2 ?

Hi Morris,
I just checked it out on my Luke, with my setting I can pull up 2 semitones, but it doesn't need much more tilt to get to 3 semitones (errrm, ok, I had a couple of beers plus I am german, hope you understand me *g*), so perhaps try screwing out the two posts, thus increasing the overall height of the vibrato - of course, lower the saddles for neat action afterwards - so the final tilt angle of the ground plate isn't too high. But in the end it's all bound to the laws of physics, there ain't much room for magic ;-)

EDIT: By the way, I use .009-.042 strings

The standard setup on Luke's term bridge makes the high E go up 1/2 step, the B go up 1 full step, and the G go up 1.5 steps. If the E is right, the other two will be very close.

i am not sure but it seems to me that there are different luke II's out there because i have seen some which have a more open trem routing for a wider trem action. in my own luke II the trem action is very limited because between the trem block and body is not more space than 2-3mm...

Banger: thanks, I will give that a try, although there is not much room to play with, like you said.

MaxM: small world dude! I think there have been some different versions and neckshapes of the Luke 2 indeed... I have two Luke 2 that are totally different.
I think the room between the trem block and the body is highly influenced by the height of the two posts and therefor the angle of the trem groundplate. Maybe lifting the trem and tilting the neck would be an option.... But I guess I will take it to a luthier and have him take a look at it. I don't want to screw around with something I have little knowledge of haha.
Gives me a chance to install a BFTS on my 2nd Luke as well
