A couple of months ago, I sold my Morse to a forum member. I know he will love, cherish, and utilize that guitar the way it should be. I sold it because I was being too fickle. I bought a Y2D model and decided I needed the slanted single coil so I traded the Y2D for a standard Morse model. I talked with a lot of forum members (some at quite a length) before getting the Morse. I noticed though, after the "honeymoon period", that I was still going to my Tele for a lot of things. Eventually, the Morse ended up back in its case and I was using the Tele all the time. The reason? Mainly the bridge pickup tone. For my style of music and playing, the Tele bridge pickup suits me best. Plus, I was so fickle about the Morse and so many of you tried to help me and not just write me off as an idiot (at least publicly;)) and I truly appreciate that.

Another reason I sold the Morse was to help fund the adoption of my daughter, who turns three today. She is still in S. Korea and we await the call to go and get her. It's a hard wait but we'll make it. My wife has given her blessing for me to buy a new guitar after she comes home to us. I have decided that, if I don't build one (Warmoth), I will get an EBMM. But which model????

I used to own a 1995 Albert Lee in Blue Pearl. I traded it in a moment (one of many) of stupidity. It was a hardtail with no silent circuit. Let me tell you, That guitar put all my Teles to shame. The Tele went to its case. The SSS AL is what I'm leaning toward. It is versatile and twangs like no one's business.

I'd like to hear thoughts from you guys. Can y'all help me out with a little opinions here? I would really appreciate it.

Hey Butch, I think the answer is in the question :)

Your next guitar will be an Albert Lee, you already know this guitar and know what it is capable of so to me there is no possible doubt

Hello Butch

You are definitely a single coil player. Thus, buy an AL or a SSS Silo. Personally, I would buy an AL. First, I was not fond of the shape (call me a traditionalist !) but now, with maturity, I think it's great.

Definitely Butch. I've got a '96 AL SSS Hardtail in Black (no silent circuit) the very same as yours was (except the color). I know where you are coming from. I've got an old 70's Tele that I've been hanging onto mainly because it's in all my wedding photos (my wife and I played some requests with the band on the big night for each other and the guests), but the tone and feel of the AL are way ahead. That's what you want Butch. An AL Hardtail.

As I was reading through your post - I was thinking ... "Albert Lee SSS - it just has to be!!!"

Treat yourself and get one with Piezo - you'll have two guitars in one!

Ah, don't listen to Spud....he's on the other side of the Atlantic and is jaded by the tides. (whatever that means). You need to buy an Al SSS.

(oh, wait....spud said that too.....) :D

Butch - interesting post. We just brought home a 3 year old little girl from Asia.....so I can relate to the long wait....

As far as the guitar goes....I own an Al s/s/s and an Al MM90 and I think I like the s/s/s/ one a little better.....sounds more chimey to me than the mm90 guitar. My s/s/s Al is quite old ('93) and although I really like it, I wish it had the locking tuners and silent circuit that the newer ones have....so get a newer Al....that's my vote :)

Butch & Jabba, congrats on the little ones! That's great!

Butch,

As for the guitar, you and I had a chat a long while ago about you selling your Albert Lee and regretting it as you've mentioned again in your post.
I think that pretty much says what you're buying.

I want pics when you get it! ;)

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, I remember my AL well. It was blue pearl with an aged pearl pickguard. It was tremendous. I could walk into almost any musical situation and it would give me what I needed (as long as the talent was there first). I need to think about a finish. Buttercream with a tortoise guard and aged white pickup covers would be the ultimate. Other than that, I like trans blue with an aged white guard.

Love the buttercream - a real classic finish.
I know Travs has a LE AL AL in Buttercream - tap him up for a photo - Caveat emptor - he has a "Liberal" opinion on scratchplates:D
