I have started to lose volume on stage and I have narrowed it down to having to "tap" the tip of the guitar lead at the jack input of my stingray to restore the volume. I have also changed batteries and tried different leads.

If the jack input socket is failing, is it worth me doing some exploration internally myself or should I try and find a reliable local repair guy and trust he can do this properly?

Unless of course Jon is willing to come over and set up a monthly "clinic" in London so we can bring our babies into see the specialist!

Lefty,

If you know how to make good (i.e. not "cold") solder joints, then you can fix the jack yourself with little difficulty.

If not, then any competent tech ought to be able to replace a jack quite easily.
