Used the Ray for Musical (show: 'Return to the Forbidden Planet')

Hey everyone. I have just finished performing the musical 'Return to the Forbidden Planet' at college. I was playing bass in the band (obviously) and it turned out to be a great show - we had a big band with brass, 2 pianos, 2 drummers, 2 guitarists, the whole cast singing...and me. What can I say? The stingray cut through so well I couldn't believe. After the show I had people complimenting my sound and playing, and I was only running through a Roland Jazz-Chorus 2X10 amp. (which is ancient, but does sound very nice with the bass, and pretty powerful). It is a flat EQ amp, so my EQ was completely on the bass, in which I dipped mids a bit, boosted bass a bit and kept treble flat.

I would be interested to see if there were any recordings I could show you, so I'll look into that.

As with everything that I take to school, it gets wrecked too. My Qtron ended up broken and my Ray got a nice big dent in the back. Not that bad really, but still annoying.

OUCH!!! I felt that! Still getting over the symbiotic relationship with that bass. But it's really good to hear that you're putting it to use like that. She deserves to be heard!

Yeah I kinda lent it to some guy so he could use it in the studio...prick. But I can't pinpoint when it happened because I only noticed it today.

It's such a testament to these basses that your SR4 cut through horns, pianos, drums and a vocal chorus, with mids CUT; not boosted, which is what is necessary for most basses to cut through in a situation like that. Amazing.

It was also kinda cool because the sparkles really fitted in with the sparkly set and costumes, and immense lighting!

All that sounds very interesting... If you can't get recordings then try to find us some photos :)

I saw the musical.

I saw the musical. The band was awesome. Shame that lovely bass was hidden behind a 5ft screen.

Also saw those dents... nasty stuff. I'd go mental.

We loved that musical! Highly recommend for those who haven't seen.

Congrats, ZakDuarte! I imagine playing in the band is better than being in the play.

No way T-Bone, the band and the actors are an integral part. I directed a version of the show in 2006 and had the band on stage and interacting with the cast. It's a really great show and I'd recommend everyone catching a performance if you ever get the chance. I might see if I can dig out one of the recordings, there's balls a plenty (well, on the lead side there is anyway).

Zak, to get rid of the dent, have you tried Reversing Polarity? It's an old trick, but it might just work! ;)

Reversing polarity is too dangerous! It really was a great show. I'm still trying to find pics and that.
