V-V-V-Volume Pedals

Evening Gentlemen,

I've decided I want a volume pedal, to try and reproduce that nice 'fade in' sound that bowed instruments and voice do oh so well. I was reading up on the Ernie Ball site(come on, if I'm getting a volume pedal it's gotta be Ernie Ball) about the pedals and it seems there's a bit more too it than plug and play. I see the word 'ohm' and get frightened.

If any of you guys or gals can shed some light on the topic for me, what might be good for me, price range, your own experiences and anything else you can think of, it would be much appreciated.

For the record I plan on running passive and active guitars and basses through it and probably hooking up to powerful equipment. Perhaps I'm over reacting, but like I said, I see the word 'ohm' and start worrying about breaking something.

Since you play active SR's, you should get the 25 kOhm version. I think...

250k or 500k for passive signals.

Jack, I don't know if you noticed my sig, but I found some sort of guitar apparently made by Ernie Ball called a Sealowett or sumthin... At first I thought it was a mistake in the shop, but then I found out that they apparently make a whole line of guitars...who knew?!

Samingo, the EB pedals are great stuff. I have one, and it's a freaking tank. It's basically a giant chunk of metal. Indestructible. I love it. I wish it had a linear taper instead of the modified taper it has, but its pretty awesome on it own. I did notice however, that if you have a tuner hooked up to the tuner out, and the tuner is on, it makes a funky buzzing sort of noise. Could just be my tuner, coulda been a bad cable(very possible) or it could jsut be a freak thing, just something to keep in mind.

I found some sort of guitar apparently made by Ernie Ball called a Sealowett or sumthin... ...who knew?!

They try and keep a low profile with the Sealowetts because baby seals are used in the construction[they provide the special oil for the neck]. Envronmental activists could cause problems if the word got out.

I've got the 6166 Volume Peda-bought it a few years back. I've ran both active and passive basses-the active basses for reference are my Ray5 & my double bass's preamp [i run a K&K Bass Master Pro electronics on it] and then the passive basses are a jazz bass and the direct [no pre] signal from my DB's Bass Max pickup.

I like the pedal, i've also used it as a distortion control, the distortion pedal didn't have a saturation knob, so i just used the pedal to control it-worked like a charm.

$100 well spent. I bought it from Musicians Friend and they gave me a free t-shirt at the time.
