very loud buzz sound

I bougt a second hand Stingray 2EQ. When I play the bass with amplification, there are very loud buzz-sounds when the strings touch the frets. I already adjusted the truss rod and the string heights. When I play unplugged, the buzz-sounds are equal to my other basses. I also tried other amps and cabinets, but it´s always the same. When I turn down the treble knob, the buzz gets quieter, but the sound gets too thud. I normaly play with full treble and bass. Compared to my other bassguitars the buzz is VERY loud.
Could this mean, that there is a problem with the circuit? The battery is new.

I would be glad about getting some help.

Didn't you try the bass before you bought it? When buying second hand basses, you should know to always play them, check the electronics ("hear" if they're ok) and the bass itself (neck etc)...
 
sounds as if you may have a ground problem. Is it only buzzing when your strings connect with the metal of the frets or does it buzz real bad when you take your hand off the strings?
 
It´s only buzzing when the strings touch the metal. No grounding problem.
I found a compromise by turning the treble and bass at only one half. Sounds not like turned to full position but it´s ok.
Is this a common solution?
 
Buzzing when the strings hit the metal could be an acoustic problem, too low action or something else. Maybe you could find a local Music Man expert to take a look with some of that cash you saved...
 
I have the fret buzz also

My 4 string Stingray has an amplified buzz too. I've set the action and string heights per manufacture's specs. It's like if I don't hit the note squarely on the fret it buzzes mostly while coming off of a note. If I turn the tone down it helps but it's too bassy. I may resell it on ebay and start using my mexican p bass again.

Trip.....that sounds like fret buzz to me....it's either your playing technique and/or your strings are too low (action).

Well, they're only nominal specs....they're not going to be the same for everyone....the instrument has to be adjusted to the way you play it.

Perhaps raising the strings 1/4 turn may cure the prob.
 
Ironic as this may be, I have the same problem with my brand new StingRay !
Damn, now I don't know what to do !
 
I may have confused the threads....maybe I should have replied in the "My Stingray 4 Buzzes". But still, with this thread, the issue may either be electrical or action.

Re flouro lighting...proximity to it can be a source for noise in electronic circuits....just a stab in the dark!

What would a black light be? Do you mean a BACK lit panel maybe?
