Off Topic Vintage thirties

I have two speaker cabs one with vintage thirties and one with celestion seventy 80s and I know the vintage thirties are really popular but I jut don't like the tone I get from them the seventy thirties I like a lot and I have a pair of seventies greenbacks that I like.
I just can't do the 30s what Do you guys use and like?
I think I will try and sell or trade the vintage thirties eventually I may try a different cab just to see but who knows.
I think I will try some emeinesce speakers at some point.

Yep, some people don't like the midrange sounds of the V30s. I remember a pair of Seventy 80s in a customers Laney LC30 and they sounded fantastic.

In some ways speakers can change your tone more than pickups can, they are a huge part of the tonal signature of your amplifier. It's such a shame there is no store that we can go into and audition speakers to find the tone that suits us best.

Eminence came out with the Tone Center a few years ago & have been putting it in shops and recording studios. If I had the room I'd have a few of them here! Maybe a shop near you can get one or two of them in?

My main gigging cabinet is a Mesa vertical 2x12 recto cabinet, which is closed back with 2 V30's.

I also am not fond of their tone - I changed out the TOP speaker only with a Black Shadow C90 and have the sound engineer mic that one when I play live. The C90 seems better voiced for my ear and my amp heads....

I run all my MetroAmp/Marshall builds through a Vintage Marshall 4x12 cab loaded with Scumbacks.

What kind of amp/sound are you going for?

I like C90s myself as it's a good compromise between clean sounds and dirt that I need for many gigs.

By chance what "year" are those V30's??

I "love" older v30's in a "closed back 2x12 setup - UNBEATABLE!!!! They have a "thud/dynamic" voicing that cannot be duplicated. Which is one reason why they are the most popular rock speaker installed in a variety of different manufacturer cab's throughtout the world.

Have you alread thought about mixing the different speakers?
I like the V30s paired with a Greenback, a Creamback or a G12 T75.
Maybe by that you can round out the overall sound of the cab.

Lately I've bee hearing a lot of positive comments about the WGS-Speakers but haven't tried one myself...

I believe they Are maybe 2005 or after.

I have a WGS Speaker in an older Peavey Classic 30 amp - sounds really good. They are a very well respected speaker!!!

Eminence equivalent "The Governor": mixed with two older v30s are treating me very well.....

I use a combination of V30's and G12T-75's in my Marshall 4x12. I've yet to hear a cab that sounds better for my needs. I even shot an IR of my cab for my Axe-Fx and of all the different stock & 3rd party IR packs I've tried, I still prefer the IR of my cab.
