Volume Pedal String?

Two questions.......

Do any of you know where i can get, just a new string for my volume pedal (everything else works great).

Second,
Have any of you had luck replacing these(strings) things?
And tips?

Hi there...

How long have you had your pedal? Might be a good idea just to have it rebuilt...EB will do it for a given price, depending on the type of pedal, + s/h to them, and they send it back to you. They will replace whatever needs to be (incl. the string!), and short of the outer casing, it's a brand new pedal. The inside of it looks like a monster just waiting to get out of its cage, so I personally wouldn't try it without adult supervision. ;-)

If you'd prefer just to do it yourself, it's probably something that you just really grab at a crafts or hobby store (maybe?), or even your local guitar shop could hook you up...just some suggestions, take them with a grain of salt.

I'm actually heading towards the rebuilding direction myself...when I step on my pedal all the way, I get a buzzing until I back off of it a tad, then it's groovy.

Hey, just wanted to bump this topic and see if anyone can answer the last question: How does one replace the string on an EB volume pedal?

I have one of the newer mono models that I got used (though in good condition), and I think the string needs to be reset, as it were. There's a slight signal in the lowest position, and the pot finishes turning a little before the highest position (I know this because past that point, the spring stretches in back and the string slackens in front, but the pot is still). So I figure that's the problem, and it should be easy enough to fix if someone knows how to remove and then reinstall the string without breaking something.

You won't brake anything (well maybe a string or a spring but unlikely).

Try calling EB tech support i ended up doing that and they where very very helpful.

I won't take off the string unless you have a good couple of hours, and a need for some frustration.

that said, my pedal does that to a lesser degree as well, so it could be by stringing (on my part) or it could just be a flaw in desighn.


Though only thing i can think of is:
try stepping heal down, then turn the pot to 0 with your fingers, this may or may not work, but it slould not mess anything up and won't take much time.

Thanks for the advice. Tried what you mentioned; the pot would move to 0, but so would the string (which is good, because if the string moved too easily, I'd be worried about accuracy during normal operation). I think it's time to call tech support.

I'm not sure why this volume pedal re-thread is kept so secret. Can't any one post the basic instructions.
I will tell you how I do it.
Go to Ernie Ball .com and search volume pedals. Here you can order the complete kit for $4.00.
1. Remove the front Jack plate
2. tape the pedal down in the off position
3. Grab the spring with a quality long needle nose vice grip.
4. Pull forward and remove string from spring.
5. Remove both strings.
6. Install heal string and spring, wrap tape to keep string from coming of of spring while installing other end.
7. Now wrap only the pot (SKIP THE IDLER) Wrap counter clockwise when viewing from the side.
8. Keep the strings smooth and flat avoid crossing strings.
When finished wrapping you will have a short maybe 3/4' tail to work with.
9. Grab the spring with the needle nose vice grips and pull to hook the toe string. Your other hand is holding the wraps in place on the pot while you do this.
10. Use a dull hook made from a coat hanger etc and pull the toe string over tell idler.
11. Grab the spring at the toe end and pull slightly to reduce tension enough to enable you to turn the pot (So the strings will slip) Turn the pot until it stops in the off position.
12. Un-tape the pedal and repeat step 10 for the heel idler.
13. Remove the securing tape on the spring and your are finished
