Want to demo a few Music Man guitars..

Any chance to ask if a couple can be shipped to a local GC? I never had the chance to ever play a SSS silo, or a Steve Morse classic. A JP12 6 or 7 would be nice too. I'm dying to get my mits on either one of these and if I could demo them, that would rock! Who can I call? Does Customer Service work closely with the GC folks to get them in stock or how does this work? I think the major GC's should have them, such as in Manhattan, but that's a good hike. While I have a local GC in Langhorne, PA and a little further out, Cherry Hill, NJ which work suffice, I'd think that Music Man would want to stock some of the counterpart stores with demo gear.
 
That would take all the fun out of it! Seriously, if that's the starting point, I'll do that. I know the guys well enough there. I'm unclear if they do honor that request and order them on the spot, unless I flashed some money.
 
I'm sure retail stores really have to be mindful of maintaining an appropriate level of inventory. Clearly they aren't going to want to add to their floor more guitars just so you could play it for 20 minutes.


And yes the original Morse is really hard to find in a store. I have only played one at NAMM.
 
Hmmm, nice idea. However, knowing a little bit about how GC buys, I can speculate that would be a substantial financial risk for EBMM. I'm sure they would love to have the full line represented in every store, but at what cost? If GC's own buyers don't have any faith that a given location can support the product, why should EB second guess? Maybe I could see sending out 1 specific model to Platinum locations on consignment as a marketing tool (but really if EB felt that strongly about a new product GC as a good retail partner should step up with a PO), but multiple models to all 240+ locations? Ouch.

My suggestion is to call EB and ask which location nearest you has the models you are looking for. Maybe they can give you 2 or 3 shops (not just GC) and you can knock out your bucket list over a period of a few Saturdays. Certainly worth the call if you are itching to try those guitars out.

Keep in mind, EB builds to order. If you tell a dealer to order a guitar for you to try out, the only way they can do so is to place a purchase order with EB, who will then set about building it. That is a commitment for them to buy the guitar for their inventory- they can't send it back after your curiosity is satisfied.
 
I've found that the smaller GC's stock no MM guitars (but do stock the bass models). I know this would be a hike, but contact Pete DuBaldo. Tell him what you want to play. I think anything he doesn't have in the store, he owns personally (hint....one of the 1st 50 Morse).....:) There's also a GC in Manchester, CT, where his store is and they tend to be well stocked with MM guitars. The trip up there would likely get you all the guitars you might want to try. Then just order what you want from Pete......or pick something out of his stock.
 
Are you wanting to demo these guitars because you are curious of their sound or is because you want to see what they feel like? If it is sound, try and youtube some videos of the guitars you are interested in.
 
I want to demo them to play them and get the entire feel of it. already been there on the sound aspect. I am very hesitant on buying a guitar just to demo it, then decide it's not the right fit for me, etc. I'm going to talk to the GC guys soon and see what they can do about getting me a classic morse or silo SSS to demo. I'm after the be all end all of guitars and collecting them isn't my intent, having a back is, but not necessary.
 
In a perfect world anybody that wanted to try any of the models we offer would be able to demo them close to home. We're always working on creating more exposure for the line so that you guys don't have to drive far to demo product. With that said, you could try a JPXI 7 at Prymaxe Vintage in NJ. New Jersey Guitar & Bass Center usually stocks a Standard Morse also. You could always ask your local GC rep about having them ship certain models in.

Tollie, I've played/owned JP6/JP7 (Std & BFR's), JPX and the JPXI, Axis, HH AL. I love the AL neck the best, I love the Axis too! I also love my JP's. The BFR's where good, but I prefer a wax/oil blended neck, which is why the std JP's are my workhorses. I might just take a ride up to Edison in the next coming weeks for a Morse.
