Hello boys and girls,

I have an exciting development happening in Tollywood, my music room. Yes, Tollie rhymes with holly.

So, a couple of years ago, I sealed off the door into Tollywood so that I could put kitchen cabinets along the opposite side of that wall. I cut a new entrance into the room from the family room, but I never hung a door there; it was just an opening in the wall.

This weekend I bought a new door for Tollywood. It's 140 year old door with the hardware to allow the door to roll on a track on the wall. My house was built in 1861, so the door is perfect. It was originally a pocket door hung inside of a wall, but I will hang it on a track on the surface of the wall so that I can see the beautiful hardware. There are wooden rollers on the metal hangars, which is so cool. The metal wheels are not shown in the picture, but they are pretty big. The door is about four feet wide.

I just need to sand down the door and then I will give it the ebmm neck treatment, finishing it by hand rubbing Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil into the wood.

Here's an older pic before I painted the walls the color of a regular coffee.

This is the color of the walls now, which is a very relaxing color...it puts me in a really good mood.

When do you celebrate the housewarming? Are we all invited?

Congrats!

Thanks, I've owned the house for nine years, so it's just another small step in fixing it up. The same family lived here for 94 years before the owner "chose us" to live here. I'm serious...I was very flattered since I couldn't afford the house so Helen dropped it down $50,000 from the asking price to meet my limit that the bank would lend me. I've done a lot of work, but it's a ten room house and every single room needed to be redone so it's taking me quite a while. I am so, so far from being done.

Sweet door! How much does it weigh?

I can pick it up easily using both arms spread wide open...I was surprised at how light it is. I'm not sure of the actual weight, though.

Love the Tollywood name!
Wow 1861...you the original owner?

Thanks, Mario (mtrejo) named Tollywood for me.

Nice Tollie! Been wanting some barn doors for my den for a while. It's on the 'list' but not before my studio expansion project!

I love the color of the wall, Bryan. I think you should send that door to Bob123 & get a spalted maple top put on it.:D:D

That would be awesome! But, I like that I will be able to tell people that the door has the same finish as my guitar necks.

My brother-in-law came over this weekend to hang up the door he refinished for me for the entrance to Tollywood, my music room. My house is 160 years old and this door is 130 years old. He pulled it out of a house he was remodeling. He fabricated the tracks so that he could hang it on the wall instead of inside the wall, as it was originally hung. The wheels and hardware (other than the tracks) are original. I am very, very happy with the results, even though he didn't give it a satin finish like the ebmm necks.

They don't make them like this anymore, boys! This thing is 55 inches wide.
