What kind of music do you guys play?

Prog rock/metal and fusion mainly. Think Dream Theater, Planet X. Still having trouble with overly technical lead bits, since I've only been playing for a year, but we're getting there for sure. :)

Using a JP6 through a Mark IV (at my parents' place), or a Vox AD30VT combo in my small apartment (I'm a student).

I'm really mixed up musically - I've played in bands everything from speed metal to big band swing. I still do many styles, but not many covers anymore.

I play write and record guitar heavy Progressive Metal in the vein of Dream Theater and Symphony X.

I also play blues ala SRV and Robert Cray.

I also play fingerstyle acoustic in styles similar to Michael Hedges and Leo Kottke with a lot of Jimmy Page mixed in.

I used to have tons of gear - mostly Mesa Boogie, but since I play at home or over a friends house now, I only play a real simple rig:

I run my EBMM and a Martin though a Roland Cube 60 with an additional 1x12 vintage 30 cabinet. Totally rocks for my needs.

I don't use many effects, but for blues I use the "Black Face Twin" setting on an old ART SGX 2000 tube rack effects preamp unit.

Main Band : ProgRock (ala Tool & Muse) ... EBMM Axis -> Orange Rockerverb.
We play live about once a month.

Other Band : Rock cover band .... EBMM SiloSpec -> Peavey JSX.
We play live every two weeks.

I play lead guitar in both bands. Plenty of crunch if you ask me !

Whatever that voice in my head wants to hear...

One day I could be playing some Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the next it could be Iron Maiden. And all points in between.

Just the other day I was working out the arrangement to Pachabel's Canon, (I was fooling around with the TSO version though...) My stepson is playing that in a wedding so you just never know what you might hear coming from my little room...

Right now I'm using a Tech21 Trademark 60 and I have a Roland Micro-Cube. Tommy just sent me a Tech21 Tri-AC to check out.

Guitars... all Ernie Ball.

blues and rock.............

nothin' funnier than showing up with a fender deluxe, saddos looking for a vintage 50's strat to come out the case..... and then I bring out a black axis with a floyd to blow their ears off.....

Now that's cool!

Twisted Rock Covers!

Recent sets have included (very) heavied-up versions of:-

La Vida Loca (including Paranoid solo in the middle)
Rod Stewarts Do Ya Think I'm Sexy
Video Killed The Radio Star
99 Red Balloons
Whole Lotta Rosie (with Shadows 'Apache' middle section)
Strange hybrid of FLCs 'I Can't Get With That' and 'Back In Black' (works awesomely well)
Abba - Does Your Mother Know

and for Xmas gigs, a thrash metal version of Wham's Last Christmas!

Plus healthy dollops of Maiden, Rush, G'N'R, Van Halen etc

It's amazing what we get away with!:D

Presenting my answer for everything straight from the EBMM FAQ.
Often the difference (in the types of music that I and other people play) is subjective and subject to personal opinion.:)
It works here too!

70's- Current covers all types, and with originals that are groove oriented.

Axis SS, through Marshall JCM2000-minimal effects, flange, chorus.

This is the first band I have been in w/a female lead singer....www.lifeisdrama.com

Tell me what kind of music do you use your EBMM guitars for?
Do you play live?
Clean?
Overdriven?
Axe-amp combo?
Well you know what I am aiming for......

Thanx.

a.

use all my balls live in my dodgy cover band, we do a lot of clean stuff and they suit perfectly. like smelly, i use a Fender deville 4x10 combo, so the silo special sounds like magic through it, but then my Axis or Luke with pleny of gain also sounds magic!!! Great amp, great guitars!

at home i play plenty of country and blues/rock/jazzy stuff.

I am the Guitarist for a Prog/Rock band called "Eyestrings" based out of Detroit. We have not played any covers, yet (and I doubt we will).

I own a JP6 (my baby) and run it through a Mark IV combo widebody. I'm thinking about taking away my pedalboard and picking up a TC Electronics G-Major with a Behringer footboard as the controller (trying to get some input on the setup before I decide to pick it up).

Sounds-wise, I like to use different types of sounds depending on the song (ex: Heavy, Bluesy, Acoustic -thanks to the piezo-, Clean, Quacky, etc.). Basically, I try to keep an open mind and ear for the tune and not be too predictable by using the same sounds over and over again (it took me quite a while to get out of my all-wah-all-the-time phase).

As for live, yes we play out once every couple of months, though our schedule will start getting filled very soon and we'll be playing many more gigs than ever before. Currently, we're booking a sort of mini-tour through Pennsylvania and New York.

Anyone else notice how well-recieved Prog is on the East Coast as opposed to the West Coast?

If anyone's interested in what we're doing, click on one of the links in my sig. The tracks that we have posted from our first two albums is mainly a '78 Les Paul that I was using for a while before I picked up my JP6, so the tonality is considerably different but, the idea is still there.

Some newer rock (STP, Nirvana, ect.) Some older rock (Sabbath, KISS, Nugent, ect.)

EVH through 5150 combo...with a BBE sonic maximizer and a crybaby wha.....pretty basic.

I used to play folksy clean, but my old age calls for some ugly thrash punk mixed with country metal. No, really! Major early influences: Steven Stills, Hendrix, Santana, Randy California; emotional and melodic players mostly.
