What song are you guys working on learning?

I have been sounding out Hub City Kids by Dave LaRue on the Bongo, took about an hour, and now have it down. Hes such a phenominal bongo-ist. What songs are you guys working on?

Just working on writing and recording my own stuff to be honest. I pick up a few riffs from other bands here and there, but I generally only write/practice/remember my own music.

3 other bule expats and I are polishing up the first 50 three and four chord rhythm & blues and classic rock songs that came into our heads, so we can start gigging in the local girlie bars in a few weeks.

i havent really spent time trying to learn songs in a bunch fo years now ... its a shame cuz i had so much fun doing that.

when practicing at home im usually just writing single lines, tossing em in my "library" or searching thru my "library" for stuff to stik together or work on to complete a song.

Great album.....we're doing 3-4 of those songs in the next few weeks. (Tell the World, Look to You, All for Love, All I need is You) Maybe "Deeper" too......yeah.

If I feel like challenging myself, I put on The Yellowjackets first album (1981; self-titled) and practice it from beginning-to-end..

I especially love playing "The Hornet"! Jimmy Haslip is a MONSTER on the bass, and Robben Ford had some of the tastiest licks to rival Eddie at the time.

Now that I think of it, The YJ's and Van Halen shared the same label at the time (WB).

Latest weirdness - "Key's in the Mailbox" and a seriously bizarre Y'allternative version of "I'll Stop The World and Melt With You".

I like to take songs and rework them in a completely different genre. I still love the funk/fusion version I recorded of The Monkees "I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone." At present I'm working out a heavy rock version of "Phantom of the Opera."

I've been working out of Ed Friedland's Building Walking Bass Lines book, and learning some Allman Brothers' stuff.

I'm also working here and there on Limelight by Rush. Got a couple of the main parts down but I'm nowhere near note for note on this song.

New tunes (for me)

We're doing "Keep Playing that Rock and Roll" (Edgar Winter) (?) and the other day at practice we played it right the second time we'd ever played it! I was impressed. Shows what can happen when everybody practices. We're also working on the Allman Bros.' "Soulshine" for a wedding next month. I think we should just go with "Whipping Post", but they're a young couple and in love and not interested in my advice.

Gov't Mule does a version of Soulshine on their Deep End Vo 1 album. I love Whipping Post but it's a bit different than a song like Soulshine, obviously. I love me some Allman Brothers/Gov't Mule.

Right now I'm working on Mark King's "Mr. Pink" bass solo. Great old-school (no double-thumpin') slap solo! I can figure it out by ear, but I'd love to have an accurate transcription of it. Having to repeat and slowing down the recording for getting the right notes and articulations becomes an annoying thing after some time of repeating it.
