what type of wood?

What type of wood is my Sterling made of? It is very heavy. EB's website states"selected hardwoods". My G&L is made of alder and is lighter than the Sterling. When I bought it from the previous owner, he stated that it was heavier than his other Sterlings. Are the other Sterlings made of alder?

Sterlings should be light. Maybe you're playing a StingRay? Sterlings were meant to be more lighter and smaller versions of the StingRay. Also, is your G&L hollow? I remember seeing a hollow body G&L bass.

Just FYI, the two or three Sterlings I've had have not been significantly lighter than the average Stingray.

Now what wood is it? Dunno. What finish is on there? Is it transparent or solid?

I own a sterling. It is very solid and painted black. The G&L that is hollow is the semi hollow ASAT bass. I have a L2000. This is a precision type body. I just thought someone may know the types of hardwood used in MM bodies. Thanks.

Hasn't it usually been ash? The SUBs are poplar and the Bongos are Basswood but I doubt that the StingRays or Sterlings are Alder, Alder is usually lighter and a bit more of a mellower tone than Ash.

They did a few Alder bodies earlier on but they must have decided Ash was the way to go.
