to ask for my Axis Sport. Sorry, I don't have a picture to share at the present time (need to load software on the computer), but it is a vintage sunburst on ash with a rosewood board, tremolo, mm90s, and decent birdseye on the neck as well. The reason I'm asking is that I want to get a Silo Special. It's a few years old and in really good cosmetic shape. Any opinions as to a fair price where I won't end up givin' it away?

Used guitar values are really difficult to establish with certainty, imho. If you're willing to ship overseas, you can probably get more for it than if you will only sell locally, for example, but if you find someone in your town who really, really wants exactly that particular guitar (less likely than finding a buyer on Ebay, but it happens), then you can probably get more for it than you think with careful negotiating... Patience is the real key to getting a fair price for your instrument, ime - if you are in a rush to sell it, you could well end up taking less for it than it's "worth". I have paid between $400US (Ebay/used) and $1200US ("local" Canadian store/new) for my various Axis Sports, and been very happy with every single one - all have been a "good deal" to me! Ultimately, however, if I wanted to sell one, I'd check Ebay for the final bids on FINISHED auctions for guitars that actually SOLD, and derive an asking price from that... Personally, I think 3/4 of the original new price is very, very generous - ime, 60% of the new price (real-world new price, not MSRP) before taxes is more realistic.

As an alternative, you might consider trying to find someone willing to trade their Sil. Spec. for an Axis. I've traded a number of guitars over the years with good results (my Axis Super Sports were recieved in exchange for my Les Pauls when I got rid of those). Too bad you weren't looking for a Silhouette, or I might be interested. :)
