...on a music man bass...does it just gradually get quieter and quieter or does it suddenly stop working? do you keep track of when they might die?
 
I don't know how modern EBMM basses fail, but my '79 Sabre battery died recently and started distorting badly. It sounded like a bad fuzztone. If I played gently it was less noticeable, when I dug in it was really bad.
 
Yeah, they distort. I just recently replaced the batteries in my Bongo. The sound would distort whenever I played anything on the E string.
 
I usually test my 9 volts so i know when they are weak so i replace em before it distorts. How do you test 9 volts? Tongue. :)
