When do you lock your bass case

As I was looking at a guitar case I came across the key. I remember thinking two things:
1. I never lock my case.
2. If I were to steal a bass I would want to steal the case to and I don’t think that the case being locked would deter me one bit.
I’m glad that I have the respect for others so that I have no intention to steal. But from my own security point of view I just have to look at it that way.

Could you provide feedback as to:
Do you ever lock your bass case? why is it important to lock a fish inside a case?
Why?
When?
Where?

Any success or bad stories as a result of case locking (or not)?

I immediately lose the keys, so I've never locked a case.

I lock my case every time I take my bass out of it.

See I go to a lot of jam sessions and want to make sure that, God forbid, some other drunk bass player doesn’t accidentally put a F@nder in it!

I either throw away the keys or lose them. I've never locked one either.

Why?

To keep mischevious grubby little hands from getting peanut butter and snot on my lovely 5 strings.

Heh. Seriously, I used to lock my bass cases because of my young kids. They like my guitars (bass or otherwise) and you just never know what is going through their minds. They wouldn't hurt them on purpose, but accidents happen.

I don't bother anymore. My daughter is old enough to know better, and my son can't reach the door knob.

I've never locked mine, either. But I can definitely see the logic in locking it to keep curious little hands from touching the contents!

I throw away the keys too, although I do use the combination locks on Gibson cases. If I'm travelling, I'll take a flight case or SKB Bass Safe with padlocks.

I have my keys on my key chain. I have only locked a case to verify the key worked in the lock. Then I forget it locks.

I try never to leave my basses where they will be stolen. Even if I have to walk home carrying them gun out in the open.
