Having enjoyed the 2006 Camp Bovine bongo-festival (and lived to tell about), I've managed to get my hands on more than a few bongos. Though I like my Bongo 5 H/S more and more all the time, the single-pickup bongo is where it's at. The fretted 5 Bongo H had superb punch and focus, and would love to be in a loud band.

And Mr. Equestrian's fretless Bongo 4 H/P---LOOK OUT!!! Though I'm surely not a fretless player, this is one incredible bass. Though I wasn't wow-ed by the piezo's, this thing was just freaking awesome. It had just enough "mwah" to let you know it was a fretless, and enough thump to remind you it still wanted to play bass.

If you're considering a bongo---consider just one pickup. It's what nature intended.
 
Can you describe how the single H was different. I'm thinking I want an H or HS. Haven't played either one. It'd be nice to hear your opinions on it. Thanks

ie.
- What did you expect, what did / didn't it do?
- How would you compare it to an SR with piezo?
- Would amps/cabs/settings make any difference?

Its my bass so I will take a crack at it. The piezo is kinda subtle. Like Joe Nerve says, its great for recording, but in a live situation I think it may be to subtle to make a big difference, especially when the EQ is tweaked very much. I personally love it the piezo and I find the tone a little bit harsh if I don't add it in, but thats my opinion. The rig he played it through was nice. Don't remember the amp, but the cab was a real nice Bergantino 322 and the preamp was an Alembic FX-1.

The amp was a Crown MicroTech, the 1200, IIRC . . . .

I've held off on ordering due to indecision on color. Sooooo, maybe somebody might be able to push me in a direction. ;)
 
The single H Bongos were the surprise hit of the night.

(Although I guess we single H owners - and Sterling - weren't all that surprised.)

The two Stealth Bongos were also just amazing, as was Andy's DG Sterling.

And really, not a bad bass in the lot - and it was a BIG lot. We talk and talk and talk but it's really proof that EBMM has the ability and skill and talent to build thousands of basses that are just RIGHT.

Why can't everyone do that? Must be Ursula.

I suspect you rock and roll guys would be most impressed with the single humbucker Bongos. As someone said, "It just begs to be played in a loud rock band."

I sort of wish mine were a different color, but I can't argue with the tone or playability!

I think you should go with Candy Red for the next purchase.
 
Colours on my short list are:

blue pearl
teal pearl
carbon blue pearl
c.a.r.
and maybe radiance red

I just can't decide. And don't even ask about pg's at this point. Owning one of each would settle it and while BP would be the happier, my bank account would be the sadder.
