I could care less about serial #s or 'born on dates'..... never saw the point, but I was curious about the debut of these fine guitars, which one released first,or for that matter, the last sabres and such made before them?
When did silhouettes and axis go from 6 bolts to five?
Were there any other interesting development changes?

Axis was originally the EVH and was released around '90 or '91. It was always a 5 bolt guitar. My understanding is that the body was already designed when EVH came to EBMM. He added his 2¢ for the neck which is a digital copy of the neck on his red and white striped 5150 guitar. And he developed the pickups with DiMarzio for the EVH/Axis.

When EVH left EBMM in '96 the EVH became the Axis. They changed the guitar but it's still, in essence the same guitar. Changes were: rear body contour, moved the pickup switch, larger rear route for more pots, slightly wider neck. They also added the Sport and Super Sport models at that time. Any Axis other than the two humbucker Floyd model was added after the departure of EVH.

If any of this info is incorrect I'm confident someone will correct me. I'm pretty close though. I can't help you with Silhouette info.

I wasn't quite shure the first 'Axis' was the EVH Axis, or not.
I knew when the EVH debuted, but thought it might have been based on an earlier model.

What, you mean everybody doesn't have a little celebration on their Ernie Ball guitar's birthday?
 
:) no,more of a" is my guitar any better if it's made on tuesday at three or friday at eight o'clock, in May, vrs, June,or '98 or '97", that sorta thing.....

because the one thing I find in EB/MM is consistency.
 
I would want to know when my guitar was made if it were vintage or something

I know that my red guitar was built on Feb 1, 2004. The only reason I made a note of it was because it was a custom made 7 string from Peru.

I have a '67 Flying V that I would like to know the birthdate of, vs an '87 Kramer Pacer Deluxe whose birthday I couldn't care less about.

I have a JP 6'er en route, born 6/15/01 - the only reason I know the date is because I asked Jon to verify that the S/N was correct for the guitar I found, and he threw in the date as a freebie ;)

As you can see, sometimes dates will have meaning/purpose for the owner, while other times they don't matter.

To each his own! :)
 
If you don't know when your guitars were made, how do you know when they're old enough to vote? Drink beer?

Several of my guitars are in puberty right now and boy does that make my life interesting...
